I really want to play Minecraft again, for the nostalgia. Plus, I want to hug everyone here
Do it, loads of new stuff has come out!
That's the problem. I want the Alpha I played in ~2011, when Minecraft was actually scary. You had to build a suitable shelter before nightfall and mobs, and at night you couldn't see shit. It was super-dark. The Herobrine rumors were unconfirmed and you might just meet him deep in a mine. We weren't sure exactly what mobs existed in the game, and what their dangers were. Dying meant possibly losing precious resources, especially if you were far from spawn or deep in a mine.
Now it seems like a lot more creative play. I wanted it to get more and more brutal, to where you were lucky just to survive. Sadly, it went the opposite way.
I don’t know if you have considered modding, but if you want a gritty survival experience I’m a big fan of Terra Firma Craft. There’s a few mod packs on the Technic launcher which include it and it changes so much about the game
Thanks, but I kind of look at it now as a time I had a lot of fun that will never really be the same. I just wanted Notch to go in a direction he didn't really care for much. But the original game seemed like it was headed towards scary, and I would have much preferred he keep that going.
In the launcher you are able to change it to previous versions. I haven't played in a long time but IIRC it was under betas or something.
I bet you already know this so forgive me. It just doesn’t seem apparent from your comment. Notch sold Minecraft awhile ago and he even agrees with your statement on Twitter. He said 2019 has been the worst year for Minecraft so far
Oh yeah, I was into Minecraft up until he gave creative control over to Mohjang, and a guy named Jens or something? That was the first blow, but the game stayed pretty great. But yeah, I was around for it, around 2014 I believe. What I didn't know is that Notch agrees it went in the 'wrong' direction.
In the launcher you can choose to download and play any released version. I started in 1.7 beta and still play it all the time.
i remember when villages were added but not villagers. they were one of the first naturally generated structures and i remember it really creeped me out visiting the village with no inhabitants. also when they first added endermen
Enderman are terrifying. I swear, the only thing that makes Minecraft scary is the sound effects, but they are so god damn creepy.
Hugging a corner while wildly swinging your sword and hearing that ungodly screeching is fucking terrifying.
I mean a lot of what you mentioned hasn’t really changed. There’s a brightness slider that you can just set it to low to get that scary dark environment. You still lose all your precious items when you die, unless you specifically toggle it so you don’t. I’d also say it’s only gotten more brutal as they’ve added more mobs like Drowneds and Husks and whatnot.
However it sounds like it’s not the old features that you miss, it was the newness of the game that had you hooked. It’s not really that the game has changed, it’s that you have changed and grown more familiar with its world. It’s not gonna keep you on your toes all the time but there is still a lot to have fun doing in Minecraft
Thanks, and I agree. It'll never be the same. Maybe I'll revisit it.
when Minecraft was actually scary.
Bruv, I got back to it a while back and now you have water zombies.
As in, you are boating around in your boat, as one does, searching for underwater temples, which are a thing now, and a spoopy-ass sound effect plays, gives you mining fatigue, so you can't just spam attacks, and a fucking WATER ZOMBIE, COMES OUT OF THE FUCKING WATER TO KILL YOUR ASS
Plus, all the scary fucking sound effects are still there.
When I got back to playing I got 2 friends who hadn't played it to try it too and after the first trip to the nether they basically stopped going there because ghasts freaked them out.
In the first hour on our server there was a lot of manly screaming.
The launcher allows you to play any previous version that has ever existed, even the early highly experimental ones. I have an Alpha 1.1.2 profile set up just for nostalgia's sake.
I love the post nether ones. Right around alpha 1.2.6
If you download the Twitch launcher (previously the Curse launcher) you can access Minecraft through that and supports making a world instance of a previous version, and iirc it goes all the way back to at least Beta.
Alternatively, same launcher has a library of individual mods and modpacks you can add to an instance with a click, I'm sure there's something there that gets you closer to what you're looking for
I mainly played minecraft around the same time as you, but got back into it in the past month or so on a server with some friends (great way to play btw)
Honestly, they've added so much stuff (including hostile stuff) that if you've not really been actively keeping up with updates since 2011, and you stay off the wiki, you can probably still end up with a similar experience to the "good Ole days".
I was worried about the direction the game was taking from reading online comments and stuff, but actually playing it again, I have been pleasantly surprised
Sure,a lot of people play creative mode, but you don't have to, and it's not like they've neglected Survival. Even without mods playing Survival on Hard or Hardcore, it can still be pretty challenging. Plus they've added a lot of new biomes, structure spawns during worldgen, and mobs, so that sense of adventure is still there as I've been playing it
If you want the barely-grasping-to-survive feeling, you can try Don't Starve. Sunk a ton of my time cause I just needed to get whatever resource I was low on the next day
Thanks. I played quite a bit of that game. Haven't touched it in a while.
Doesn't the launcher support alpha beta and snapshots?
Yeah, also beds killed this experience.
Honestly I'm glad it went the way it did. It never would have become so popular if it had become more brutal. The creativity is what makes it minecraft.
Yeah, see we have different gaming preferences. I played with creative for about ten minutes once and that was plenty for me. I used to build quite a bit, but always in survival. There's no risk to creative, and I just found it boring.
The village and pillage update dropped earlier today on Java edition. I think it comes to Bedrock in an hour or so.
I was initially really worried that Minecraft would have lost some of it's charm with all the new stuff, but it totally hasn't! Mojangsoft has done a fantastic job updating the game over the past few years, and Minecraft is in a better shape right now than it's ever been. I highly recommend people going back to see for themselves!
My friend started a new Minecraft server a while back and all my friends got into it and we played together. It was a great time, it’s worth it bro.
Me and my friends used to play Minecraft in my attic. Try to imagine the sweat of five teenage boys the age of 13 playing with each other together. We only had one window too. We would look outside and think we'd build a world of our own one day. A world without juice.
There’s a new update about to drop!
i just started playing minecraft for the first time this weekend, it’s fun!
I redownloaded Minecraft, got on my favorite server from when I was 12, said something in chat and 2 people remembered me<3
Everyone is jumping back on Minecraft tbf, you go have fun buddy
Already was on hot on greentexts
I got minecraft back today. This makes me happy
You being happy makes me happy
Do I smell a romance blooming?
You smelling a romance blooming makes me happy
You all breathing makes me happy
Perfect timing 1.14 just got released!
Lmao I forget this game keeps aging with all of us that had to set it down coming into adulthood. Every time I catch up on it it's like reconnecting with an old friend and being baffled at how much they've changed.
I got it back a couple weeks ago. Had to turn my minecraft account into a mojang account and download it again. Started with alpha or beta and last time I played was 1.3.1. Before the wither, witches, command blocks, anvils, carrots, or potatoes. I remember hating the new creative mode inventory and I still do.
Yeah I just redownloaded it literally last night, apparently my account is from fucking 2011, I still can’t believe I’ve had an account that long
Feeling nostalgic today. Might delete later.
I remember my mom talking to another mom, who she didn’t know, after she overheard her talking to her kids about minecraft. When this mom asked if she should let her kids get it, mine laughed and said she mostly didn’t regret it, but had never expected to have to intervene in a fight because one of her children had filled the others house with lava, and since I was listening, and the most frequent cause of those disputes, I waved and gave my cutest ~10 year old smile. My mom loved that.
Mums are the best <3
Unfortunately not all of them... some people need to find new families outside of their blood relations, because their actual parents don't treat them well.
This is actually me rn, I played mcpe untill I got java edition for christmas. Me and my friends came back to the game and are playing the shit out of it. Love my mom ❤️
I remember getting Minecraft for Easter when I was 12, I think it was version 1.3.5 at that point. My parents printed out a picture of a creeper and put it in my Easter basket because they didn't know how to buy it. Thanks Mom and Dad ♥️
Anytime someone born in 2000 or later starts reminiscing, I feel old af. 😩
First thing that I thought too.
My girlfriends younger brother was talking about being a little kid (6) when Modern Warfare 2 came out and reminiscing about getting good at it.
What. I was in fucking high school.
I remember playing Minecraft Lite on my mini iPad at age of 7. Memories:')
Edit: Idk why you are flipping out over at he fact that I'm pretty young. Like there's alot of 14 year-olds on here. I doesn't hurt to look at Memes, other than the fact that I laughed at a pic of a pebble the other day. My humor is dying.
I remember playing gta San Andreas unironicly on my old Win XP at the age of 7.
SA-MP was the best.
It makes me feel old that you had an iPad mini at age 7 tbh
Seriously in my head iPads have only been a thing at all for like 5 years tops.
This almost made me cry. ahhhhhh the memoried from 2012... we have come so far in life.
Basically same but I got it for my Birthday. Minecraft will forever hold a place in my heart. Thank you notch.
PSA: Mother's Day is two weeks from this Sunday. Plan ahead, y'all.
IM NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING
Minecraft was good wholesome fun back in "the day". Reminded me of legos. It was a nice change from the usual FPS game. Sadly the game has been a meme for the past few years.
That kids name?
Love you mom.
Username nonA. Got ‘im!

I was a little late to Minecraft. I first heard about it in 4th grade. After I saw it, I played the lite version on my iPod 4 until I convinced my mom to download it on the family computer. I believe I started playing around 1.5 or 1.6.
I have so many great memories from playing video games with my dad. I couldn’t be more thankful he wanted to teach his daughter how to play Ocarina of Time and Turok on the N64. This post brought back a lot of memories, like him suprising me buying me vanilla WoW.. im gonna go cry now lol
Greentext . . . . could have gone either way.
Am I the only one that panicked seeing a 4chan post on their feed thinking it would be an Avengers: Endgame spoiler?
That moment when your password doesn’t work and you’re locked out of your account forever, Feels bad man.
I just got Minecraft for the switch... I am a happy dude
I miss playing Minecraft with my buddies :(
