Thanks everyone for the well wishes, and I will show her the well wishes and congratulations. Her country has their own version of something like this, so she'll get a kick out of it.
Congratulations, you're a lovely family.
I think your eyebrows can bench more than I could.
Those brows and that widow's peak are really a winning combination.
Oh please share. I like learning about other country's customs and cultures.
It's called panthip. It's basically Thai reddit, but it's written in squiggles.
Thai reddit?? Sounds delicious!
That little boy is about 20 percent eyes and about as cute as is humanly possible!
Congratulations. I love those little flags. Here's one for you: 🇺🇸
Oh, come on. Give him one of the big ones:
mfw the flags don't work on old reddit and all I see are the letters u and s in a weird font
"Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others!"
Her country has their own version of something like this
This made me laugh. It's America baby! You're doing that something!
Her country is now America. What do you mean?
As a man born and raised in America I say congratulations and WELCOME. I wish you and your family all the best.
I second that! Congrats and Welcome!
Fourthed. Keep it frosty
Fifthed! Congrats on all your wife's hard work paying off.
As a man born and raised in America I say inappropriate things about how hot your wife is.
will redditors ever be able to leave their penis out of the conversation when they see a post with a woman? only time will tell
My penis has a right to take part in any conversation!!!
You can’t keep my penis down with your hate speech! ( because I double dosed Viagra!)
dat thumb bro
Yeah mahn, came here to see if anyone else noticed
It's a normal way to hold a baby
He doesn't like to be held facing me for some reason. He wants to look around.
Niece is the same way. Loves to see the world!
Probably because your eyebrows are absolute UNITS. It's a nice pic though. Congrats
Little guy looks like he will have some mighty fine eyebrows himself someday.
My kids were like that......but that's because I'm ugly.
Yes it is but he gots a toe thumb, which looks like a dick thumb with the placement
"ya flys open"
Thought it was a willy slip
Fuckin GG boys
Came here for this.
So I wasn't the only one. Whew.
I like your YouTube channel where you build experiments with electricity and pretend to shock yourself.
The reference went over my head. Who?
LMAO! This guy is great, there goes my evening.
Be careful between laughing at his misfortune you may accidentally learn some electronics.
(I love electroboom everyone should watch him)
Oh he doesn’t actually shock himself? I’ve never really questioned it and assumed he was in fact shocking himself in the name of science!
The graphite carbon rod episode was pretty realistic looking if he didn't hurt himself.
I am pretty sure he knows exactly what he's doing :)
Where are you from? I want to guess something like Armenia or Greece but you look a lot like Vinnie Jones
I'm a complete mutt. My family ancestry looks like a UN summit. It's funny because my sisters and I all look completely different because we have such a diverse gene pool.
"I'm a complete mutt"
Honestly, it doesn't get more American than this.
My son is even more so a mutt than I am. He is, English, Italian, Norwegian, Swiss, Spanish, Puerto Rican, Thai, Chinese, Mon, African(which I found out from a DNA test), and Native American(even more than Elizabeth Warren, lol). For race, I just click "other".
That's some elite genetic selection there. Your son looks like he could become a future KPOP idol, LOL...
He is, English, Italian, Norwegian, Swiss, Spanish, Puerto Rican, Thai, Chinese, Mon, African, ... and Native American
And 100% American.
You just described the average American's genetic makeup in 2050. Congrats to your wife on becoming a U.S Citizen. Good looking family you got there.
I just recently watched a youtube documentary where identical twins sent off their DNA to a bunch of those DNA testing companies and they came back with differing results. It seems that these businesses can narrow it down to broad areas like Western Europe or North Africa but when they tell you an exact country they're essentially guessing.
I'm not sure that's the case with you but it could be worth getting a second opinion from a different company if you want to get a better idea of your ancestry.
Can I get a link please, because my brother and I sent ours in separately without Identifying one another. When we got our results it also suggested a link in our ancestry, and we were 100% likely to be brothers.
While it is difficult to narrow it down to country. Their result (the twins) were pretty much the same.
Man I laughed when you said you’re family history “looks like a UN summit”. That was a gem! Congratulations, you have a beautiful family, and please welcome your wife to OUR country, as it is hers now too!
Must have some Arab genes or something huh, strong eyebrow game. You look like you should be wearing a colourful, billowing silk shirt with the top 3 buttons undone and a gold chain with copious chest hair. Can I guess on your wife? Maybe Phillipino, Indonesian or somewhere in SE Asia?
Completely wrong for me(I'm European and Hispanic- and apparently just found out from a DNA test my mom took, black and Native American as well). Very close for my wife.
Well most of Spain was under rule by the Andalusian khalifate, it is possible you might have some Arab blood! He might not be too far off!
Some people In Spain of those descended form then have some Arab DNA from the time that the moors ruled over there. If I recall even sicily was a moorish emirate for a while.
And by a while you mean hundreds of years. There's almost a hundred percent chance he has some Arab in him if he's Spanish then lol.
That's interesting, I would have put money on some Arab or at least Southeast Europe. She from Cambodia then, maybe Thailand? I don't think Vietnam.
Mostly Southern European and she is Thai. You have a good eye.
I'm jealous. You probably get some bomb ass Thai food
Honestly, you don't even know. While I like Thai food here, it is amazing and much different there. We've thought about opening a place in the future.
Yay for more Thai food options!
thai curry is the bomb!
now i'm hungry lol
Well, considering the long period of spanish emirates and arabic domination in Spain, it is still very possible that he has some of it in its gene pool.
Lol, love this reply man. A fellow mutt here, checking in.
I’m Armenian and I thought he was Armenian. Good eye man :D
This is great, but I have to ask. Why are photos of people becoming US citizens always trending in this subreddit?
Becoming a US citizen is not as easy as people and the media portray it to be. In most cases it takes a long time, sometimes years, and a lot of money, sometimes thousands of dollars. I like to upvote these because most of these new citizens show more passion and respect for this country than the people who are naturally born here. It shows their commitment.
You summed it up perfectly. 17 years and 40k later were looking like we might get it next year. 🎉?
my brother and his wife went through the process (he's American, she's not) and it actually surprised me how lengthy the process was. Years and years.
Well said. It’s unfortunate how hard it is to become a citizen in the US. Some of the most amazing people I know, immigrated to America, and have been here for several years, and still haven’t gained citizenship. Hopefully we make it easier in the future. It’s what makes America special, and we’re losing out when it’s like this.
As someone that's been through the process, I can verify all of what you've said.
For me, it was about 5.5 years from filing the first visa petition to being approved for citizenship. Total cost of filing forms was about $4000 and that doesn't count the cost of a long-distance relationship, a wedding, medicals, attorney fees etc. It's a long, hard slog and USCIS is perhaps the most ill-equipped and underfunded federal department there is so often you have long periods of waiting anxiously for approval.
Agreed. Plus, it is a chance for current US citizens to be welcoming and remind the world that the majority of us still recognize and value the fact that our country is made stronger by diversity.
Hi there! I just created a new Subreddit called /r/NewAmericans!
Hopefully this place will gain popularity and become a dedicated place anyone from around the world can share their stories on becoming a new US citizen!
Because it feels like everyone on here is American.
Can something be “always trending”?
Who is that man holding you? And aren’t you a little young to be getting married?
Edit: Question marks added.
Seriously though, why are there so many citizenship photos in here? Isn't there a far better sub for it related to citizenship?
No this sub is Facebook now, perfect place to post this kinda stuff
Because people know it gets karma so they milk the fuck out of it
US propaganda. People only seem to think the Russians do it.
It looks like you put your head in there with photoshop
A few things:
I am overwhelmed from the response on this. I have lurked on the site for some time, but never posted until recently. I expected this to have like 3 comments and die.
CompZombie is the winner of the guessing game, my wife is Thai.
I have to learn how to hold a baby because I have ruined many pictures with my thumb. Here is another good one ruined by the thumb: https://imgur.com/a/hqT3zUu
Thank you again everyone!
Your baby is insanely cute!! Those eyes 😍
I feel like the baby could have dressed up more for the occasion.
95% of your baby's eyes are filled with the good parts.
Your baby is so adorable!
ITT: comments about OP's eyebrows and hot wife. turn back now
You forgot the thumb holding the baby and people saying how reddit is facebook
I see the new rules are working well.
You got those gus sorola eyebrows
Your head looks photoshopped for some reason. Congrats though!
Keep it on Facebook dude.
Congratulations!! What a cute family you have!
I can't get over how cute that kid is
Why do people still care about this shit, I find it hard to believe op is even the guy in the picture. This is just karma farming I'm so done with this sub
Welcome to the family, fam. There are some bastards out there but most of us are really decent people.
Welcome to America. Thank you for doing it the right way! We are glad you are here.
Congratulations to the OP.
For the rest of the sub, can we stop just making these daily front page things? It's just a family photo. Theres nothing of note to it at all.
citizenship shot, preferably with American flag Americans : Oh shit that's where I'm from! 70k upvotes
Unfortunate thumb placement though.
Lovely family, most Americans are unaware that even if you are married to an American the process to citizenship can take years and cost $1000+. Welcome aboard!
We have been together for 12 years, have been married for 6, and it cost us much more than that. The legal way is much more of a pain in the ass, but we wanted to do it that way.
Friends of our had to prove over and over that their marriage was "real". They had been married for years and years and had 2 kids. But still kept being treated like they were trying to play the system. Was crazy. But eventually her husband got his citizenship. Congrats.
Bruh. How much more real can it get than having kids with their spouse?
The legal way is much more of a pain in the ass, but we wanted to do it that way.
I can assure you that trying to navigate American life without doing it the legal way is a much bigger pain in the ass.
Extra points for anyone who can guess her country of origin...
Eye brows reddit for content like this. Congrats!
Do those eyebrows need their own passport?
Aww your kid reminds me of my little cousin , so adorable.
Another one of these posts
At least this one has more eyebrow jokes than passive aggressive commentary on immigration
I hate this sub so fucking much
That’s cool for you and I’m going to let you finish but “I just became a citizen” posts are the worst posts of all time. Of all timeee.
Seriously, they’re unoriginal, uninteresting, Pat-on-the-back-Fests every time and they’re so utterly cringy and useless. And to dump the post in something as nondescript as r/pics is clearly for attention.
Congrats but seriously, no one cares. Anyone who pretends they do are part of the ongoing redditor to redditor reach around that doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
You're so fucking wrong.
Progress pics are the worst of all time. Citizen pics are a close second.
