This looks hilarious, frankly. A Bowie movie that won't have any of his music, starring a man who barely looks like Bowie, and about a supposedly "very unique moment in his life" which every reporter and their cat has written about.
Sounds like every Jimi Hendrix movie biopic ever made (at least 2 of them, and maybe 3?) - so par for the course.
I pretty much HATE most music biopics, unless proven otherwise on an individual basis. I think the one about Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) is the only one yet that I've liked much. The Hendrix one with Andre 3000 was wonderful acted (and Andre did a great job with what he had to work with), but the focus of the film was all wrong, and did nothing to tell us anything about Jimi that wasn't highly speculative, and mostly way off base (and little of it had anything to do with music, let alone HIS music).
The Johnny Cash one was great, and the Doors one was pretty solid too.
I wish they had better movies in that subgenre though, I love learning about the lives of musicians and I love dramas so it should be a match made in heaven, but like you said they mostly suck
My wife is a huge Doors fan, and she hates that Oliver Stone flick more than anything else in the world.
Forgot about the Johnny Cash one, and agree it was good too. Never saw the Doors one.
And Control about Joy Division too, great movie!
I saw in a 'Variety' article that its director said 'its not dependent on music'.
In a film about David Bowie.
Yeah this is going to be great...
'its not dependent on music'.
What kind of disaster area of a person does it take to say something this stupid???
This is awful, but at the same time, watching the trainwreck is fascinating.
He's trying to make his limitations sound like artistic choices
A person who's backed into a corner
His long term friend George Underwood isn't on board with it either according to this interview https://www.nme.com/news/music/david-bowie-friend-george-underwood-dismisses-movie-biopic-2446245
It's pretty obvious that no one in his inner circle of family and genuine friends are willing to contribute to this kind of project, so how would we know how authentic they are? Makes them worthless in my opinion.
double triple mega meta OOF
That's more like it, only with more OOF.
Who knows maybe it will surprise us. Then again, the Jimi Hendrix biopic didn't feature any of his music and that didn't go too well...

Geez, that Hendrix biopic sucked royally. Andrew 3000 did a really great job of acting, and capturing the look and sound of Jimi. But the script and what the movie focused on was all wrong.
I can't tell you how disappointing that Hendrix movie was, given what a great job the lead actor did. I walked out thinking it was basically about a letter-grade of "C" -- and by the next day, I'd downgraded it to a D+ or so. (Andre, though, I'd give a solid B+ to, for effort.)
This was big news last week...
Yeah I know it's old but. It's still worth talking about.
It already has been. Several times. Check out the Neil Gaimann interview. That's the most recent development.
Where can one find this interview?
Alright, will do!
