Cough cough Aliens 1986 cough cough
Halo makes a lot of references to the Alien movies, similarities in other areas than lines are probably outright homages.
There's a poster on the Pillar of Autumn that says missing cat, answers to Jonesy.
What game is the one to the right?
Apex Legends, a new free to play battle royal game in the same universe as Titanfall.
Thank you. I only had to go to the 20th fucking thread to find the name of a game I’ve never heard of.
Lol same, reading through each one to find a mention lol
Whats a battle royale?
Basically think of it as The Hunger Games
No idea why you got downvoted because that's pretty much exactly what it is.
little kids that are entitled and can't imagine that other people don't have the same experiences that they do, downvote it because to them "everyone" knows what battle royale is, and anyone that asks questions that everyone in their bubble already knows should be downvoted and dabbed on.
You think it's only entitled kids that think this way about BRs. That's the only part of your comment I disagree with. I guarantee there were full grown men down voting for the same reason you just described.
I'd go further than that and say most of the downvotes came from adults.
Statistically speaking there are more naive adults in the world than naive children. Age isn't exactly a positive correlate with intelligence.
Or Battle Royale (the book that inspired the Hunger Games)
If he doesn't know what a battle royale game is, he most likely doesn't know what Battle Royale is, so I'd say comparing it to the Hunger Games would be a more valuable comparison.
Bunch of people drop on a map last man/team standing wins. You usually drop with no loot and have to pick up weapons, attachments, armor, and heals as you go through buildings or off the corpses of those you slay.
I hate that the mods refuse to add in a tagging option to identify the game. It makes no sense.
If you like battle royals, you should definitely get Apex
I dont even really like BR games but this one just feels nice. I've had a blast.
The vertical ziplines alone make me love it, and the live leaderboard banners seal the deal. The ping system is top-notch and the movement is so good.
The ping system is SUPERB
Yeah, Fortnite was the first BR I really tried to get into but always got bored after about two matches. Apex just feels really good and is actually fun. Find my self playing it for a few hours.
Saaaame. I’ve despised all of them up until this point. They managed to get 3 dudes who hate BR games to be obsessed. It’s pretty awesome
Set in the Titanfall universe
Is there a lore reason for a battle royal in the games universe?
Not that is explicitly stated in game, apparently it's reported it takes place 30 years after Titanfall 2, a bit of a Bloodsport hunger games type thing for assassin's and mercenaries and such.
I see. Sounds interesting
There’s youtube video explaining some of the lore. But basically from what I understand- Apex is a mercenary company, they were the “bad guys” in titan fall, but they’re not bad at all. Well some of them, but they’re just mercenaries who fight for the highest bidder. Well anyways, years later after the titan fall stories/games, the Apex company started a Game where contestants fight for money & fame on an island in a planet owned by Apex. Many people join the apex games, but only a few become Legendary - Thus these “heroes” that we can select to play, are the Apex Legends, at the moment anyways. Each Hero you choose has a unique story, attributes, and back ground as to why they are in the game. You can find out more about them on the Apex website/youtube if you wish. But anyways, Im just excited for more Legends/heroes to drop into the game later!
So, Unreal Tournament then? I wasn't interested until now.
Best I can figure out from the intro cinematic and actual gameplay is that it's a bloodsport / Hunger Games style competition with big winnings for the champions. It's also presumed that the players don't permanently die, they're able to be brought back from death somehow. But I imagine getting shot and bleeding out would still really suck.
Pilots can transfer consciousness into a new body, Cylon Resurrection style.
This is the lore behind the Regeneration and Gen [1,2,3,etc.] Pilots.
Wait, it's in the SAME universe??? Pilot character confirmed???
Call me a pedant/nerd/loser but here's my view on this...
It'd be hard to put a pilot character in without taking away from their legacy from the games. Pilots in universe are supposed to be near mythical figures who are basically gods on the battlefield. These legends are cool, but they shouldn't come even close to pilots. It's like comparing regular Spartans to Master Chief or Noble Six in Halo. Which they did in Halo 5, and everybody hated it.
Maybe a pilot trainee who dropped out halfway through would be cool, but definitely not an actual pilot. It would be cool to see their character design return though.
I mean, I get what you are saying, but also the campaign for titanfall 2 has you playing as a trainee pilot who just gets shoved into the pilot role, and they still are complete gods on the battlefield.
BT was the real MVP
To be fair, Jack was an absolute beast anyway. He was hand picked by the greatest pilot in the resistance to be personally trained by him.
Man, I feel like Titanfall is just a wave that passed me over. Looked super generic when it came out, but here people are talking about the story and lore and stuff like it's amazing and I have no idea what's going on.
Those games are so good and nobody played them. It's a shame cuz I've never seen a shooter try so many new mechanics all at once and nail every single one of them.
Titanfall 2 is $20 normally and often goes on sale for $5 in origin. The campaign alone is worth it and the multiplayer is still semi alive.
I wouldn't be surprised if we get a pilot character. Probably a double jump passive and a wallrun ability on a cooldown.
You can't wall run but you can wall climb super well already so I'm not sure they'd do that. I'm constantly looking at walls thinking there's no way I can make it to the top and mantle up but a quick jump and climb later I'm up there.
To bad the prowler sucks until you find the select fire mod for it lol
The select fire makes it go from 1-10000 real quick. That thing shit stomps when you get select fire
Right? It's a fair trade I guess, carry around a POS hoping you'll get lucky and find the mod. But once you do its game over
I been pretty lucky that the mod is often next to it. But at least without the mod its still more usefull than the p2020 and r45 which eternally stay useless as they have no mod improvement
Edit : SPECIFICALLY in Apex Legends, not talking about titanfall
ammo is harder to come by though.
Heavy isnt really rarer than light, I normally end up with plenty of each. Its energy that's rare.
I find it's all about ammo balancing with your team.
Once me and the squad had raided a location, we'd see who was holding what and trade ammo. Everybody shook out well after doing so, plenty to go around so long as you're mixing up what everyone is carrying.
I just get the biggest backpack I can find and become a pack mule and grab all the ammo and ordinance I can find and hand it out when we’re safe.
Its energy that's rare.
And thank God for that, too.
Devotion in the hands of someone who knows how to use it is fucking terrifying.
My favorite is grappling over someone, which is where I get the first 3-5 shots off. By the time I land the Devotion is up to full power and just tearing away at them.
I love bunker so much. Attacking or defending it's always brilliant. Tried to hold the fort with Caustic and Banga laying down gas and smoke, caustics traps at each entrance and Bloodhound seeing everything through it. Worked for about 5 minutes until it seemed like everyone in the game wanted to come party and we all ran out of ammo.
I havent really felt any ammos were rare at all really even energy? I've got a couple hundred matches under my belt and the only time im low on energy ammo (if im using it) is when im being real liberal with my devotion
Energy is easy to find.... unless I have an energy weapon.
Big facts, its rare I even have more than a spare clip for my devotion :(
Pretty rare to find off bodies though. You can usually find like 100 at a location but especially near end game, most people are using heavy or light so you won't get a lot of energy ammo to refill with when you get your kills which makes me sad because the devotion is so fucking satisfying to use.
The r45? Useless? You clearly haven't used it at closer distances
Yeah, I don't really have an issue running both while my team finds better guns. R45 is great, and P2020 tends to freak enemies out when you start hitting them.
I had a match similar to this one. Both team mates were knocked out in 2m, I had the RE-45 and the Wingman. Ran around the building and knocked out an entire squad, hid around the outskirts of the map for the rest of the match only engaging enemies that were engaged with another squad. Got kill leader and eventually won a 2v1 for the win. In close quarters the pistols are by far some of my favorites.
I thoroughly enjoy the RE45 for my close range auto. It doesn't empty its mag as fast as the other light SMG (is it the r99) and it's easier control.
When u haven’t played Apex yet and don’t u see what any of this means
Be careful... this game is addictive
It’s really brilliantly done. The QoL improvements are leaps And bounds above any other battle royale games. Pinging is fantastic.
Pinging is probably my favorite aspect
The ping system in Apex is phenomenal. I also really like how the game will tell you if the attachment on the ground is better than the one on your gun, then will auto drop the lesser attachment for you.
That's good QOL right there.
And swap compatible attachment over to a new weapon if picked up
Funny cause when it got introduced to PUBG(the location spotting part) it got received with such backlash that it got reverted.
I will say though that the entire communication part of Apex is truly fantastic, you genuinely don't even need to type or speak and u can still communicate with your team with ease.
I think it received backlash because being able to mark the exact location of someone in the tactical shooter changed the gameplay completely, in a bad way. PUBG is all about positioning and slow play.
Whereas, Apex is so much faster paced that even if you mark someone they will already be in a different location so it doesn't really affect overall gameplay/strategy.
I'll say I prefer pubg without the pings. The pace is simply different. You have the time to call out "contact - bearing 305, moving right to left, 100m". Apex by the time you finish that sentence the guy could be in another zip code.
It's really so goddamn good not having a jank building system. I cannot for the life of me comprehend fortnite's building it just feels so bad to use.
It's definitely better then black ops.. It'll be interesting to see if it beats out Fornite. The games aren't really the same crowds.
I think the meming and lack of seriousness is the main draw of fortnite.
Apex Legends doesn't really look that serious as well. It's obviously not as unserious as Fortnite, but still, somewhere along the Borderlands levels of seriousness
True, I couldn't stand fortnite but I've loved Apex, it's just faster paced and the respawn feature is nice. And when you shoot people the have to FIND cover not just suddenly build a mansion to the sky. It feels like a BR game for people who liked older FPSs
Won my first game I played last night... I will readily admit it is super polished and well done (I loved Titanfall 2 and felt it never got the popularity it deserved, I played it for 3-4 months after release pretty exclusively). That final circle/fight just did not have the same adrenaline rush as PUBG still gives me, though. I think it might be because the final circles tend to have a lot less people than in PUBG? I think of the half dozen games we played yesterday most of the end circles only had one team left.
I like it when on burst... as long as it has an extended mag. It tears shit up if you get headshots.
Or carry around the mod until you find the POS. At least that’s what I do if I have the inventory for it. The mod seems to be common enough for it
is that the trick? fuck i thought it sucked really badly. I've seen that select fire mod around, good to know.
It becomes a beast, way more stable, more accurate, and you do better bursts when you controll the amount your burst. 5 rounds is too spontaneous and kicks like a mule.
Ive also found that the hemlok is not terrible when you switch it to single shot, burst fire just seems terrible in this game.
I still haven’t learned entirely which gun does what. Every time I go to shoot someone and it turns out my gun is burst fire there’s a surprised, “WHAT!”
I think the prowler and the hemlok are the only burst fire guns.
Same thing was happening to me until I realized there's a graphical indicator, under the gun's portrait, on the bottom right, that indicates each gun's fire mode(s).
I've played like fifteen rounds and I still maybe only know like two of the guns. Almost every match so far has been running around for ten minutes, never firing a shot, never actually engaging in a fight, and then getting killed by someone I didn't see before I can fight back.
I think I've literally gotten more kills with my fists than with all the other weapons combined.
I know it's a battle royale by design, but I wish the game had a traditional deathmatch mode so you could learn weapons and other mechanics.
You can enter training mode again and try out every gun, the only down side is there's no way to get to know the various heroes.
Next to your total ammo it tells you. Infinity symbol=full auto, single bullet=single fire, bullets stacked on each other=burst
Ahh the hemlock. A gun which could kill a pilot in one burst in Titanfall 2 days.
How about the prepatched smart pistol in Titanfall 1? Paired with the perma stim burn card. Those were the days
Hip fire close range makes the hemlock essentially a shotgun
Dude the hemlok has been my go to favorite so far
Noob here, what is the select fire mod?
Prowler, the burst fire SMG, has a select-fire mod that enables it to be switched to full auto. This takes the weapon for being kind of shit to brutally effective, assuming you can keep a decent amount of shots on target. This is because it maintains the damage per shot from burst fire mode.
Lets you change from burst fire to full auto. It def melts hard core when you get it.
I don't really get this sentiment. I eat people up with the 5-round burst mode. Granted it is a far better firearm with the mod than without but it's certainly not garbage.
To be fair the AR in halo sucks too unless in a pinch
The halo 1 AR is legit. After that it started going downhill
Makes sense because that’s when they started prioritizing multiplayer. The two best guns in halo 1 were what you spawned with lol
Changes color done
Is this game any good? I've been looking to pick something up battle royale style, but just don't want to play Fortnite.
Edit: wow thanks guys, didn't expect so many good reviews. Got a couple bad ones, but definitely everyone loves this game. Will try it out.
I'm having way more fun than I thought I would.
Yea me too I really like how fluid the movement and everything feels in this game.
Gotta love those Titanfall movement mechanics! Even without the double jump and wall run, it's still sooo damn satisfying.
Yeah man I mean even only running feels amazing in this game.
It's funny. In our group of friends we all love this game except one and his main problem is he doesn't like how the characters move. Iono, it's not for everybody I guess.
thanks, good to know.
It's great. It doesn't "feel" like other BR games because it's fast-paced, the controls are good, and each match only lasts
at MOST usually 15 minutes or so.
Sliding down hills is so satisfying
Dude, Tribes 1 will forever live on in my heart. That game was so far ahead of its time. First FPS game I ever played and got damn was skiing and hitting a mid air disc launcher shot ever satisfying.
No doubt. I even miss Ascend tbh, although its later patches & balance changes pretty much ruined it - in beta & early after its proper release it was great.
As a whole, I don’t like BR games. I tried to play fortnite for months, couldn’t get into it. Tried pubg for months and couldn’t get into it.
I have fun playing Apex. Simple as that. Try it out and you might enjoy it
Same here, played Pubg a bit when it first came out, never got in to it and even with not playing a whole lot, it got that "samey samey" feeling very quick. Fortnite never appealed, but a friend recommended this and we played a bit and its absolutely worth the download.
I'm having a lot of fun on it. It seems like a Fortnite style without the building, combined with Overwatch classes and abilities, and the borderlands art/personalities.
Add a bit of Tribes movement, one Halo weapon, a lot of polish and voilá. One Apex Legends coming up.
Considering it got over a million people in the first day then quickly 10 million people and overtook fortnite on twitch and everything about the game (besides on /r/titanfall) is talking about how fantastic and well made the game is...
Yeah, id say it’s pretty good and worth playing.
I was real salty about getting this instead of Titanfall 3, but I can't deny how fun it is
I used to play Fortnite but got sick of the battle royal trend. I didn’t have high hopes for Apex but it actually ended up be extremely fun and unique. It’s a really well tuned game, easily my favorite BR title yet. Best part is it’s not early access, they put out a polished BR game at a time where they’re all early access bug traps. I think anyone interested in BR games would enjoy the hell out of it. Plus it’s free to play so there’s no reason not to try!
I used to hate br games and then they released apex.
Honestly, the communication system in this game is amazing. You don't even need mics to talk about 95% of the game. Also jumping together automatically reduces the chances of getting teammates who "want to land/play alone even though they are in squads." It really reduces toxicity, love it!!
So glad I wasn't the only one....
Saw a gif and thought it was a new Halo game, thought it was weird that I hadn’t heard of it but I don’t pay any attention to Xbox.
Next Halo game is in the works but it's still a ways off. It's called Halo Infinite.
My son was playing it last night, when I walked in the room and saw it I asked "are you playing Halo" ? The game looks awesome and I'm happy to see him playing something other than fortnight. Him and most of his 13 year old friends have dropped fortnight for Apex legends. Let's see how long it lasts.
Apex really nailed the marketing to 13yo’s by getting all of the big name streamers to stream it right away AND having a pretty well polished game at release
People really wanted something other then Fortnite, it felt like we had to play fortnite since it gained its popularity. So glad it feels boring and empty now imo.
we had to play something because it's popular
Sucking dick is pretty popular too.
Why did you want your son to stop playing Fortnite if he and his friends enjoyed playing it?
No reason really, Fortnight has been an awesome game for my son and his friends. I'm happy they are getting so much enjoyment out if it, I'm just tired of watching it and talking about it 😀
The interview I heard with the developer said there are multiple Easter eggs in all the guns to shooters over the years. A homage if you will. I enjoy that. I’m taken aback about how much money and sheen is in this game.
One of the skins on one of the
handguns shotguns is "The Last Word" from Destiny
Edit: I might've jumped the gun a little, they don't look as similar as I thought. The color scheme is close, and the name "Brother of the Blade" could apply to both of a Hunter's two subclasses. I guess it reminded me of my gameplay with TLW. https://imgur.com/g8wSjDD.jpg
someone should tell em they are all titanfall firearms (im aware they made the game)
I think the Prowler was made specifically for AL. It definitely wasn't in Tf2. And Halo precedes Titanfall by over a decade so I'm not sure what your point is here.
Literally every gun in titanfall has a bullet counter, this gun is designed to look like the PDR, so the only way to make the counter look good is to make it fit the shape of the gun. Saying titanfall stole the design of the halo AR means that a real life company stole the design somehow
Bullet counters have been a things since at least Aliens, although it wasn't on the top rail.
Which made no sense when you think about it.
Theres one similarity, otherwise it’s like the most guns in video games... it has a barrel and a scope. And in this the bullet counter is pretty much the same. If you look closer they’re quite different
Tbh I thought it was just paying homage to halo not copying it
Similar or not, I have no problem with seeing other games take design cues from other great games. Make the gaming world feel more connected.
So the only similarity is the bullet counter? That's a different colour? And a slightly different display with only a triangle? Obviously a copyright claim is coming.
You are gonna lose your mind when you see titanfall
Apart from the triangular display it honestly doesn't look too similar.
Good job copying the homework.
It's just a digital bullet counter and is common in futuristic guns
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this style of bullet counter are becoming a real thing now? Like these actually exist. So it's not really copying anymore right? Now it's just adding a real life thing to a game.
