Cheench and Chonchilla
Its the long lost son of big chungus
It makes me think of Chinchancla which in my head is an especially furry sandal used for corporal punishment by a Latina mother against her children.
If you've never seen a chinchilla in a dust bath, you are welcome.
Does this clean them? How does it work? Does this work on humans?
Their fur is so dense that they won't dry properly if they get wet (read: their skin will get moldy and gross), so they bathe in dust and that helps get rid of the oils they produce.
Do they stink because they don't bathe in water? Or does the dust really work?
They don't smell bad at all and the dust really works! It helps that they don't have sweat glands, so it's important that they stay somewhere cool.
They're really tidy, too, and can be litter trained to pee in a litter box so that's really the only smelliness that comes with them. (Which isn't a problem if you don't let their litter box get nasty.) They can't pass gas and their poo is like other little rodent droppings so it doesn't smell either.
They're like more fragile rabbits
Pretty much! And oh-so-soft. (:
Do they bite?
Mine has only VERY gently nibbled to "groom" me (one of the ways they show affection) or taken a curious bite if he smelled treats on my hand and thought he missed one. The grooming nibbles feel like tickles or "butterfly kisses" sort of and the curious bite was not deep or meant to bite into food - it was just sort of exploratory, if that makes sense. My little dude just makes grumpy quacking noises if he's not into whatever lol.
I'm sure they might bite if they felt trapped and in serious danger, but like I said, mine has never ever bitten me in a mean or serious way. Their teeth are constantly growing, though, so they always need stuff to chew on and hay to grind down their teeth in addition to their food pellets. My husband always jokes that dogs explore stuff by sniffing and chinchillas explore stuff by chewing lol.

I really want to hear these noises. Don't suppose you've got it on video or anything?
I get dusted once a month.
Aprox how much dust does it take(a friend wants to know).
At least kind of. Fine dusty stuff is abrasive, so you can rub it on your skin, and brush it off, taking oils and yucky stuff with it.
I find it also helps when you get sap on you...but it's just a trick. The sap is still there, but at least now your fingers aren't sticking to everything, the dust covers it.
Ph00p they bathe in dust because water damages their delicate fur, that’s also why they burrow and stay underground mostly during rain
You can put a messed up chinchilla into a dust bath and it comes out all shiny and perfectly soft.
He's so happy! ❤
And, also, now I need a chinchilla.
Dont run out and get one unless ypu have a cool house pretty much all year. They hate heat!
Also don't get any if you can't care for them for the next 15 to 20 years, since that's their average captive life span.
Source: am the owner of two happy 14 year old chinchillas.
Yes, they do, buuut, I have a chinchilla that weathers 80 degree heat ok. She gets ice cubes in a bowl to help cool off as well as cool granite slabs to sit on. If the temperature change is gradual she loses some undercoat and stays ok. If it gets hotter in the house she gets put in the small cage in the basement which she absolutely hates.
Well you sound like a kind and responsible pet owner... Chinchilla on friend
Used to have one. She loved to explore the room at night. Would let her free in the room occasionally and she would jump off the walls, flip around everywhere and do all sorts of parkour.
My spirit animal
CHINCHILLAS ARE NOCTURNAL, do not adopt without considering that.
Not only are they nocturnal, they will make insane amounts of noise chewing on basically everything during the night.
You need enough space for them and you need to be prepared to have a night time noise machine for 20 years.
The way they rub their noses is cute though.
I was under the impression that they are crepuscular, as opposed to totally nocturnal
Same. A super chunky one.
He look fat
Like ball of rat
But actually he pretty flat
Under floof hat
Is it just me who started thinking about Pokemon the way it was doing those spins
They literally do it with volcanic ash in the wild
That was cute but messy.
Didn't know I needed that in my life. It made me v happy.
This is the greatest thing ever.
Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
Thanks, I didn't know I needed that till I saw it. Lol
My 5th grade class had a pet chinchilla. The coolest animal I’ve ever seen in person. Beautiful little creatures who, to my surprise take dust baths. Those are so cool to watch and then feel them afterwards. Super soft.
I'll have an enchilada in a flour bath, please
So fluffy and cute! Love it’ thank u ;)
I am so glad they included a picture from the back.
OH LAWD HE...
so fluffy, I’m gonna die!
Cute Aggression overload !!! I want to squeeze it so hard
I went to the zoo recently and if the volunteer was correct, the chinchilla is the second softest land animal or something, measured in X hairs per follicle. The first is the snow leopard.
Ugh I love chinchillas so much. Fortunately this is mostly hair and not fat 😂
I find it really hard to believe, it might be just a little bit fat at the very least.
I agree s/he does look a bit rounder than other chinchillas I've seen... but even so it's bound to be a 25% to 75% ratio of animal to fur in there :D
I have never seen one with hair so uniform, could it just be professionally groomed or is this a subspecies like the way cats have a variety...I thought thought chinchilla are all the same.
Judging by the color, it could be a show chinchilla. They usually have outstanding hair and roundness
I follow this breeder on Instagram actually, his page is camerons_chinchillas.
I had some as a kid. Anything their head will fit through the body will also fit. They are 99.9% floof.
They say that about cats too but I've definitely seen some fat ass cats for whom that is not true.
Considering that it looks nearly spherical from behind, I'm gonna go with more than "just a little."
Edit: just reviewed photos again and, well, that's definitely more than hair.
Don't investigate. Some animals were not meant to be seen without fur
I’m just big boned
I remember having to actually wash my (departed) chinchilla because he had injured his foot and couldn’t pee or defecate without getting it in his fur.
The only time I had to actually get him completely wet to clean it all out and I was just dumbfounded with how much how his perceived mass was just fluff
So...no chonk? :(
Dude. You can see the fat rolls when he stands up...
Hair doesn't roll.

Little Chonk, cousin of Big Chungus!
Now that’s what I call a bachonkdadonk
This is what peak performance looks like in a chinchilla
Very impressive making that water ballon look like a real chinchilla

I prefer 'large and in charge'.
I like big butts and I cannot lie
Honky tonk badonkadonk, that is a cute chonk!
Yes they are as soft as they look
I second this. Chinchillas are the softest animals on the planet.

LORD HAVE MERCY
In awe of the size of this lad.
I think your chinchilla may have reached its maximum psi.
Like a living, fuzzy bowling ball.
Oh my gaaaaaaaaaawd freaking cutie
Big Chungus but chinchilla
The fattest floof.

Living his best life haha
That is a fat chinchilla. But s/he is also perfectly round, and I appreciate that.
it looks ridiculously soft. i need it.
Chinchillas are the coolest. Used to have one but sadly passed from pneumonia after a few years. They are really majestic and outgoing little creatures
It’s spherical! SPHERICAL!
Hey! Isn’t that our friendly Neighborhood Totoro!?
I think this thing swallowed a balloon.
Big chungus jr.
Pikachu! You let yourself go...
Huh. It's a chonkchilla.
I just screamed “ITS SO FLUFFY” in my head like a little girl. I’m a 28 year old man.
Chins are great, we have three all with totally different personalities and they live up to 20 years unlike rats that last 1-2 years.
"I'm not fat.... I'm fluffy"
