Doc Martens, those jeans, this looks like it could have been taken in 1996.
Don't harsh her mellow, 1996 just got to Iceland.
Funny, I took it as a compliment.
I know they’re Swedish but I can definitely imagine getting to Iceland and hearing Ace of Base played in every bar, just like in that South Park episode where the guy was frozen in 1996 and they recreated his habit
The 90's look is making a huge comeback per my 14 year old. That's all she buys now.
wearing my jnco's tomorrow to show the kids how fly i am.
I feel like I've just had an insight into the previous generations male brain.
I think I understand. Not everything has to be skin tight.
Sometimes leaving a little to the imagination ADDS to the draw.
I was in high school in the late 90s and while much was looser women's shirts tended to end just shy of covering their stomachs, so anytime they moved you saw some navel.
Holy shit, I think I just realised why bellies turn me on so much.
On a side note I was cleaning out my closet years ago and found a box of my old high school clothes, from when I weighed 130-140lbs and was rail thin. I gave a bunch of them to my dad who has the physique of Santa (he's been him several times) and they fit him perfectly. The tags were all small and medium, haha, what a time to be alive!
Awesome pic! Body looks photoshopped lol
The whole pic is photoshopped. Look at the road
Do you have one of just the sunrise?
the mountains are shitty but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
edit: this one's better
Good enough for me dude
Wow that's impressive nice
Do you have one with a bear riding a camel while playing a harp?
I meant no disrespect. This is a beautiful pic! I felt it deserves to be in it's own pic. The color in the sky is gorgeous!
Good God, I’d hate to be the person you actually intend to disrespect.
We were all thinking it.
A great accidental burn nonetheless!
Sure ya didn’t
If you’re doing this solo then who took your picture?
I’ve got you now, you rapscallion!
Aw, poor OP
So that's a no then?
Gotta agree, it's just too pretty a scene
hah was thinking the same thang
W A S T E D
Oh man this is my favorite comment in a long time.
Saturation level at an all time high.
Why does the right edge of the picture cut at a 45 degree angle? Looks rather odd. Beautiful picture though!
You look like a wacky wavy inflatable arm flailing tube man
Seriously though, what's up with your pants and your waist?!?! It's like you're being sucked into a black hole from the middle first!
Yeahhh... Her photo got posted over in a different sub pointing out the Photoshop.
Yeah, this was driving me nuts too. Hips to waist ratio is wayyyy off
It’s really just the way my sweater is tucked and I have like 4 pairs of leggings on under my jeans lmao, it’s 0 degrees outside after all lmao
0 degrees? Pfft, those are amateur numbers.
(not so) Fun fact! Kelvin isn't measured in degrees as it's an absolute, not a relative scale (unlike degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit, which don't start at absolute zero).
0 deg Kelvin? Might put my toque on.
No it's not. It's photoshopped
Four pairs of leggings but no coat, hat, or gloves? Hmmmmmm.
Are you like 6' tall? Or is that just an illusion?
It's a beautiful picture, btw.
I thought perhaps Gumby
You can buy one of your very own at Al Harrington's Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man Emporium and Warehouse!
Clearly and badly photoshopped
So nice to see someone show Iceland’s sky without the northern lights, it’s a beautiful country even without them
I haven’t even really seen em yet, it’s been too cloudy :(
We went for 3 nights and missed out, there has to be high solar activity and low cloud cover and you have to be in the right place. We went out on tours to look for them (where they take you to dark places with good lines of sight) twice and didn’t see them but we spoke to people who had randomly seen them on a coach ride back from hot springs. There’s a huge element of luck.
The tourism website recommended staying for 2 weeks to have a strong chance of seeing them, but obviously the tourism website would want to encourage people to stay as long as possible. There was so much to do though, we deffo could have stayed 2 weeks.
I keep seeing like little specs of them but it’s freaky dark here. Like I have never experienced darkness like this before. Also the sun does rise until 11am & it sets at 4pm so I assumed there would be a good chance considering how long nighttime is here. Still got 5 more days left here so fingers crossed!
What's that thing you are talking about rising here? I have never heard of the thing.
All joking aside if you're here still on wednesday we'll at least have a cloudless night, not sure about the Northern Lights though. And just to be clear, this weather is absolutely not normal. I'm a 40 year old native and I've never ever ever lived through a winter like this.
Thirdly, what drove you to visit Iceland in January of all times? That's like the suckiest month of them all.
Probably dirt cheap airfare.
I went for 3 days in mid November and saw them. Made it a mission to see them. Had a planned tour that was included with my trip but never went to meet up with them. I had bigger aspirations, and a toyota landcruiser. I was GOING to see them, regardless of the hoops I had to jump through to make it happen.
This is very helpful so you can remove a lot of luck from the equation: https://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/
I skipped the tour I had both nights and did my own thing, drove 4 hours to Kirkujfell at 4AM since it said I could see them there. And voila, there they were.
Luck is more along the lines of, can I see them in my area, and without much trouble, during normal waking hours. If you have a car, and they're visible on the island, you can make it happen if you have the desire. You might have to wake up at 3AM and drive 4 hours, but so be it. Dedication and perseverance over luck.
On the return flight, I spoke with some people in the group and they didnt see anything either night they went out. It's not that they COULDNT, it's just that the Aurora wasnt playing nice with their locations and the time they went out to search. They didn't see it because it wasn't convenient for them.
If you make it a mission to see them, have a car, and do your research, you can make it happen. Assuming it's the right time of year and they are visible somewhere on the island.
Wait... If you are alone who is taking the picture??
I'm concerned for your internal organs.
I zoomed in just to investigate this. The way the sweater is tucked in hides her body extremely well. She's still super skinny, but it's not the cartoon level shit that it appears to be.
Was gonna say this. Colorblocking with black/white lets you create illusions like this where your waist just seems to disappear
I thought he was implying someone was gonna snatch her. I don't even know which one of us is more pessimistic.
Thank you for your service.
It’s a beautiful pic and I’m so happy you’re getting out to travel about on your own. There’s a very liberating feeling you get when traveling by yourself and I recommend it to everyone.
I love traveling around by myself, nobody else to worry about and just go wherever the wind takes you
But you're blocking the sunrise
I’ve been thinking of taking a solo trip after a rough few years with mental health. How are you faring? Any scares, and how do you stay safe?
tbh I am incredibly socially awkward and really used to struggle with making friends at all, I think gaining the experiences I have doing solo travel made me feel a lot differently about myself and helped me open up a lot.
It weirdly is a self-esteem booster, it’s like I did this all by myself and didn’t give up and kept going. I’ve never really had anything really bad happen to me while traveling thank god but I think a large part of it is just staying vigilant.
Thank you for opening up about it. I really appreciate it. I’ve had self esteem issues for a pretty long time, but nothing exacerbated it like going to Hong Kong and hearing locals insult me behind my back. Oh, and the creepy men. I guess my biggest fear is going on a solo trip and still feeling targeted. Idk I feel like I get a bit too paranoid sometimes.
Her waist torso-waist-legs are so sinuous. Its unreal.
It’s illegal to pull over on the side of the road like that. I nearly hit multiple people who thought it was be a nice idea to just slow down and edge over. There are no shoulders on their roads.
How long did it take you? I traveled there, but stopped at Hofn and turned around. The northern stretch looked intimidating long to drive.
Started in Reykjavík and went North, first real stop was Godafoss, it took me about 5 1/2 hours to get to, I hit Dettifoss & Setfoss this morning and now I’ve just gotten to the east coast, which took about 4 more hours lol, I’ll be stopping in Hofn though!
How long does the complete drive take? How much challenge does it add if your only language is English?
Awesome pic, thanks for posting!
Us Icelanders speak English just fine, you might meet an old fart that struggles but absolutely everyone under 60 speak it.
Kudos to all of you for the excellent quality of your English. Trying to be polite, I once asked someone if they spoke English, and they looked insulted (it was the beginning of my first trip, I didn’t know :-)
When I hitch-hiked the ring, only non-English speaking old farts picked me up. It also didn't help that my Islandic had a thick NYC-Polish accent.
Everyone in Iceland speaks English and anyone working in hospitality speaks it very well.
The ring road drive without the Westfjords or Snæfellsjökull is around 850 miles and can be done in 6 days if you treat it like a real road trip and drive 4-8 hours every day. Snæfellsjökull adds about 100 miles and half a day. The Westfjords add about 400 miles on curvy roads that are not paved as well and have lower speed limits. I would add 1-2 full days just to physically do it, but more like 3-4 to enjoy it.
If you only have a week off, do the ring road plus Snæfellsjökull. If you can take 2 weeks, add the Westfjords and an excursion off the ring road to the north.
When I was looking at the trip it was suggested you take 2 weeks to do the whole trip and have some time to take in the sites. If your really wanted to push it you could do it in a week.
In the end it's still on my bucket list so maybe someone who actually did it will chime in.
I did it in 9 days. Went clockwise starting in Reykjavik. You can drive around Ring Road in about 12 hours without stopping. I did not visit any of the highlands. You can easily push it into a two week-plus trip if you make it there.
Lots of Icelanders speak English, especially the young crowd. Even people in the countryside (the north) could speak it.
Just went to Iceland in June. Spent 10 days driving the inner ring and everybody spoke English. Super friendly but lived off peanut butter and jelly the entire time cause food is so expense. Worth the trip. Got so many shots like this
Your waist looks tiny!!
Was there any post processing done or just the angle of the picture ?
This is 100% photoshopped.
Cue link to "Girls can't take a picture of something without being in it" meme.
edit: I could either have done it in 30 seconds, or done it well. I’ll let you guess which I chose ;P
Do you have one that just took you 10 seconds?
My mom tells me to stop taking pictures of the scene and be in them. It turned out to be good advice. Although it’s best to take both just in case.
When I studied abroad in Italy, I sent photos home to my parents. They asked that I take a photo with me in it because I had hundreds of photos and not a single one with me in it. They didn't believe that I was there. My dad even joked that I was pocketing all the money and sent home postcards.
I am concerned for your torso and pelvis, it appears your waist has gone missing.
Her waist looks crazy small in this picture. It is freakin me out.
What's up with the picture borders?
There's a person in the way of the sunrise
Where is your waist?
- Vegeta! What does the scouter say about the vibrance level?
+ It's over 9000!
- What!? 9000!? There's no way that can be right! Could it!?
Iceland is my dream vacation. It just looks so beautiful.
Honey, you pulled over to take this photo of yourself. I don't see any sunrise but a dimly lit dawn sky.
Jesus! So much hate in this thread. You look great. Beautiful landscape behind you and well done capturing the pic with your phone in the door of your car. Love your shirt! It looks comfy and makes me want to hug you.
people get so mad cause they say I post “Instagram content” on reddit but this is a huge way I meet other solo travelers so I don’t really care. Thank you!
You can literally see in the video you posted that you do not at all look like this. Girl, stop lying.
Can I ask what a Solo Ring Road Trip is? I guess in the south USA we don't use that terminology.
Iceland is essentially encircled by one long road, which you can drive in one big loop of the country without ever leaving the road.
This is called the Ring Road. She's doing the trip by herself, hence a Solo Ring Road Trip.
Iceland has a ring road that circles the entire island. It's a fairly popular thing to do when visiting Iceland. A solo ring road trip is just her doing that trip alone.
How do you meet solo travellers on reddit? I'm a pretty frequent solo traveller and all I get out of reddit is some silly pics and angry neckbeards raging about reposts...
"I get a lot of followers directed to my instagram account from reddit" would have been a more accurate statement.
She doesn't. Look at her other posts, she has maybe 100 upvotes on her most popular ones other than this, and the comment sections are basically plucked from gonewild.
It's a nice excuse though.
Is there a solo travel community you recommend? I travel all the time by myself and really like meeting new people
It's also because it looks like you shopped your body and thought noone would notice. Not saying you did or didn't though. This is just kinda how the (mostly male) base on Reddit behave.
No they get mad because you post photoshopped images making yourself look impossibly thin and then make yourself, not the sunrise, the center of this image. If you're going to post a selfie, make it real. Your need for attention doesn't make it okay to make hundreds of people look at you and say "shit, why can't I look like that".
I think you're confusing "mad" with not liking the content.
If the picture is of the sunset, why are you in it?
And if you are going to put yourself in it, why are you photoshopped? Why do you care about pleasing random folks on reddit in any capacity via slimming your body?
It's just odd, and not something I care to clog up my front page.
And don't bother with the "it's my sweater tucked in", sis. We know.
Stopping on the ring road for pictures like this is the main cause of crashes in Iceland these days. Nice one.
The amount of people defending literally parking your car on the only lane in your direction to take a selfie is unbelievable. I can't tell if they're thirsty or retarded.
I've never seen such inconsiderate tourists before going to Iceland--you won't believe how often this happens, especially in peak season. You can very easily park on the side of the road, but all the selfie takes treat the road like it's theirs and no one else's. Maybe they were afraid of the gravel fees on rentals lol.
Seriously, this is incredibly dangerous. The highway is 2 lanes with no shoulder... saw so many irresponsible people like this stopped in the road to take "just one selfie" while the cars around them had to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting them.
I was going to say, fuck this. Almost got in a crash when the car in front of me decided to suddenly stop and park in the middle of the one lane road for a fucking selfie.
Not to mention having to swerve in the wrong lane.
Any advice for fellow solo travelers?
I solo tripped NZ and had a good time, but my friends warned me about soloing Iceland because they thought it was a hardcore couples destination, would I be miserable if I went alone?
I’m certainly not miserable, I can’t think of very many people I’d be down to spend this much time in the car with lol. I’m dying to do NZ though!!
FYI - if you are in focus and in the foreground its not a picture of the sunrise
Does she have a question?
What a waste
Enjoy the PMs!
Looks like one of those last pictures taken before a person disappears.
What’s a ring trip?
There’s a road that goes around the entire country in a ring. The interior is pretty much desolate wasteland, so the road takes you through all the inhabited parts.
Ahh beautiful. Hopefully you stop at the black sand beach there are also some good hikes to hot springs that you can bathe in if you do a bit of googling.
I did eat some reindeer jerky but I just felt sad after
stomach rumbles in protest
"Shut up, Rudolph!"
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
Beautiful photo! Your body looks kinda oddly twisted or something, though. Was this a panoramic or something?
Let’s not make this instagram :(
I don't understand your proportions!
Beautiful pic, just wondering tho...your waist looks abnormally small, is that just the way you are standing or really like this?
More like this photo of yourself.
Who took the picture? Lol
From New York, it’s too cold for me to wild camp though I’m definitely considering coming back in July! Staying a B&B’s and getting to know the locals and such!
do you have a job?
That looks amazing but I seriously can’t work out what’s happened to your waist. Were you standing at a weird angle or something? Or maybe the wind is blowing your jeans to make your legs look bigger actually.
