I wonder if anything will actually happen to him
Due to the nature of most sexual harassment and assault, criminal charges are dubitable. That being said, sometimes the sheer mass of allegations is enough, as with Cosby.
Also, there's literally the video. That has to be something, right?
Can they use the video? Since he was acquitted of the original charges that the video was used as evidence of? Or does the fact the charges brought to him was child pornography and not sexual assault of a minor and anything else they throw at him make a difference? Genuinely asking, because I'm not sure.
Since he was acquitted of the original charges that the video was used as evidence of?
Oh if that's true then yeah, the video is worthless, RIP
It is true. He was tried for child pornography in 2008 and was acquitted
so he wasnt tried for having sex with the minor but for recording it...
Yes. And I'm right there with you. Makes no sense to me
He was charged in child pornography and not with the actual act. At least that’s my basic understanding from the documentary. I could be way off though.
They can charge him with something else aside from that and use the same evidence. Just not the exact same crime.
There’s no double jeopardy rule for evidence- only crimes. As long as the successive charge has one unique element, any piece of evidence admitted in trial 1 will be deemed admissible if it is relevant (ie probative as to culpability and not unduly prejudicial) and not prohibited by any of the other rules of evidence.
That reminds me, has Harvey Weinstein gone to jail yet?
The charges were dismissed like 2 days ago. A defamation suit is next tho, but I don’t think you go to prison for defamation.
Edit: I’m reading into it more and I guess it was just Ashley Judd’s sexual harassment suit that got dismissed. There are other cases still going. He is not in jail tho.
Those weren't the rape charge
If nothing else, hopefully his career is done.
That reminds me of the Lost Prophets frontman. Glad he is locked up for another 30 years iirc.
Start Something was one of my top middle school and high school records, like absolutely some of my favorite music at the time and I’m sure I could go back for a nostalgia listen if it wasn’t for the insane shit this dude pulled
It’s unreal how fucked up that whole case against him was, like he is one messed up dude
I have learned about it much later after i found the old records and thought it would be cool if they had some new stuff. After i read about it i did not know what to feel about the music or the lyrics. Made me sick for days. Because the music is still good...
Apart from the whole separating the artist from the art thing, the lyrics also won’t have been about raping babies. He got addicted to meth during their later years and the band said it was a downward spiral from there, though they had no idea he was doing that too.
The songs themselves are listenable, I mean I can't as I just feel wrong (I loved the band back in the day). But if you ever find the "A Town Called Hypocrisy" Music video you can't help but die a little inside.
I remember this one YouTube video it’s like a comedy show, anyway the journalist does something for Christmas and that Watkins guy is literally holding and sniffing a baby. While the mom is like “give him back” or “stop smelling him”.
Out of curiosity, do you know if the Lost Prophets guy was an open secret like R Kelly or was it genuinely a shock to people around?
it was a shock, for sure.
now Jimmy Saville, that was an "open secret".
Yeah my dad used to work in a restaurant where he was a regular and always said you could tell. There was something very off about him.
He looked like the most obvious nonce ever idk how most people weren’t suspicious in first place
he was such a creep!!
i think as someone born after his era of fame it's easy for me to look back and wonder why anyone would worship this scruffy creepy old man in shell suits!
i am sad for everyone he assaulted/affected in anyway that it only all came out after he died. it wouldn't surprise me if it was kept quiet up until that point because he had dirt on people in positions of power who he would take down with him if they didn't protect him while he was alive.
It was a shock to the band in some regards her had been becoming more erratic and recluse even booking different hotels to the rest of the band. But they knew something was off when working on an album which I think was never released he believed that this was going to be the big one that put them back on top, while the rest of the band were thinking we put this one out and then we're done. His erratic behaviour and secrecy was more than likely seen by the band as related to his drug taking (he started doing meth) rather than his actual crimes.
Alot of the evidence of what he did were in chat logs to various mothers and everything seemed to have been behind closed doors.
He was reported to the police multiple times by an ex girlfriend but the police ignored her reports.
Yeah no way that dude was rich enough or popular enough to be out in the open doing shit like that. Most people don't even know who lost prophets are where as R Kelly is a household name. Also people looked the other way with Kelly cuz being into pubescent teens in the entertainment industry wasn't too taboo for stars, but that LP guy was into toddlers so nah that's cause for a public execution to most of society.
Pretty sure it was a genuine shock to everyone, not least of all the other band members.
I've seen and read about humans doing some shitty things in my time, but the court transcript of that one made me feel physically sick, and I had to stop reading for my own mental health.
Even the boondocks made an episode about R. Kelly and the 14 year old girl a decade ago... It amazes me how this is new all of a sudden. The fact that people choose to ignore abuse is appalling.
There were small protests in the black community where they destroyed his CDs, he's been publicly condemned as guilty for many years, we haven't forgotten about him, we still think he's a piece of shit like we did before the documentary (I've only seen the first episode so far). We never chose to ignore the abuse, he was found not guilty there was nothing we could do.
Yes there are people who still support him, and he has new fans that don't even know about the allegations, because the industry continues to play and promote his junk.
We the people didn't forget or ignore the abuse, there was simply nothing we could do, he was tried and found not guilty. Did you forget and ignore? The documentary has informed people who never even knew.
We the people didn't forget or ignore the abuse, there was simply nothing we could do, he was tried and found not guilty. Did you forget and ignore? The documentary has informed people who never even knew.
If that were true, we wouldn't be having this discussion here today, because "we the people" stopped giving him business.
No we didn't. Some of us did. Many, many, many others did not.
No pop star is a pop star without fans. Fans make him successful; he still has them. That's the problem.
Jesus the way she talks about him it sounds like they suffered abuse and the allegations were not a surprise at all. I hope she can heal and that piece of shit father of hers burns.
I think Andrea got them out before they would be of an age of interest to Rob. His sweet spot seems to be 12-16. Andrea’s oldest would have been 9-10 when she left. I suspect the way she is feeling is because she saw her mother abused. He is very controlling about leaving rooms, eating, bathroom, so that and physical abuse probably happened to the kids. It has got to be hard to hear their mom being victim blamed, shamed, and even doubted. I think it is clear she knows her mom is telling the truth because she saw some of it. Andrea is a classy lady. She doesn’t tell it all. Doesn’t talk much about sexual abuse, but does address a few things about physical abuse.
It’s “classy” to not talk about sexual abuse?
What in the ever loving fuck.
I feel for this daughter....it's not her fault her father is a POS
I don't want to think that he's done to his own kids what he's been doing to those other girls... but now I can't shake the feeling that it's possible.
He was just accused of assaulting his younger cousin.
Of course it's possible. Do you really think he'd hurt other young girls and then somehow exclude the ones in his house? Predators prey on anyone they can. Even if he didn't, being his child is probably traumatic enough...
Get ready for THE public disgracing of 2019.
Watch everyone pretend that they didn't know anything about this predator that's been openly tolerated, and even passionately defended, by the music industry, the black community, and corrupted local officials in multiple jurisdictions for 25 YEARS.
Aaliyah's first album was a cry for help, and the piss tape with the 14 yr old was a blaring, red siren that we all laughed about.
The kind of evil power that money buys a person is an outright epidemic across all sections of our society, and I wish we'd talk more about the system that allows these things to happen with SHOCKING regularity, than the entertainment personalities involved.
Get ready for THE public disgracing of 2019.
Still waiting on Chris Brown's comeuppance,
Don't worry, Chris Brown is the R Kelly of our time. Nothing's gonna happen to Chris till he's like 54 and broke. We have to make sure all the damage is done first.
I've heard that about Drake before, but never actually knew what he did. Can you expand on it? I'm not doubting you, just curious.
Drake also supports and associates with convicted human trafficker, Baka Not Nice. Drake signed Baka to his OVO label IMMEDIATELY after Baka was released from prison for human trafficking charges. Disgraceful.
Rumor he is "grooming" young girl and dates them once they are legal age.
At least publicly when they are legal, who knows if something is going on in private when they are underage.
some think he does the same thing with the Stranger Things girl now, based on some questionable messages between them.
I have not followed it closely so i might remember it wrong, if you really are intrested you should google.
He texts with Mille Brown. Who by the way is 14.
I’m eagerly anticipating the world realising what a creep Bryan Singer is.
Listening to the radio earlier and heard Phoenix apologized on Twitter for bringing him on stage at a show years ago. Everyone acting like him being a sexual predator is fucking news is disgusting.
I want to hear Dave Chappelle's take. He's gonna be like "I told every least one of you like 15 years ago."
sings Drip drip drip... Piss on you...
Haters want to hate.
Lovers want to love.
I don't even want none of thee above.
I just want to piss on you... Drip, drip, drip.
I want to piss in yo foood
Im gonna make my life complete, gonna turn your face into a toilet seat, piss on you yes i do. drip drip drip. Grandma in background " thats my robert" haha
For those of us in the back, I didn't know Dave Chappelle did anything about this so I looked it up. Thought I'd share for anyone else interested:
MARCH 2003: AWARENESS OF KELLY SEX TAPE PEAKS WITH CHAPPELLE SHOW SKETCH
Bootlegs of the Kelly sex tape (in which he urinates on a minor) were so widely circulated (two years before YouTube came into existence) that just about any interested party could obtain one. Dave Chappelle did a sketch of the making the tape, crystallizing the public perception of the incident as an object of ridicule, rather than proof of a sex crime.
The video clip itself: http://www.cc.com/video-clips/gslu5d/chappelle-s-show-r--kelly-s--piss-on-you--video
And then people blamed Chapelle and The Boondocks for keeping R Kelly in the spotlight, whilst they were saying he was a bad apple.
This is not someone defending him.. https://youtu.be/28qwGqTO0LI
That is a powerful video, I would upvote more if I could. That boy tells it. I never knew about The Boondocks until now. I clearly need to get out of my bubble!!!
ETA transcript of what really hit me:
"You a fan of R. Kelly? You wanna help R. Kelly? Then get some COUNSELING for R. Kelly. Introduce him to some older women. Hide his camcorder. But don't pretend the man is a hero."
Watch season 1-3, skip season 4 until the last episode.
crystallizing the public perception of the incident as an object of ridicule, rather than proof of a sex crime
I couldn't disagree with that statement more strongly. Comedians make jokes, often about "inappropriate" topics. They don't gather evidence, and they don't try criminals. Did he also crystallize public perception about police brutality with his bit about "N***** broke in and put up pictures of his family everywhere. Sprinkle some crack on him and lets get out of here"?
"Remember. I'm not saying it to be mean, in saying it to be funny, and everything is funny...until it happens to you." - Dave Chappelle
Tragedy is me getting a paper cut. Comedy is you falling down an open manhole and dying.
- Mel Brooks
Agreed. I felt like the R Kelly sketch at the time was to highlight this in a joking way, like “this is a really bad dude”, while also poking fun at the black community for supporting a black celebrity no matter what, even in the face of these very serious allegations.
Remember that sketch was about him being selected for jury and was asked about several different big names, the r Kelly part being the most expanded because he did the whole bit, then later the music video.
I feel like it’s up there with Hannibal talking about Cosby on stage years ago. It created awareness to an audience that maybe didn’t know about the R Kelly thing, or at least didn’t know the severity.
I mean, South Park did a whole episode about him too. Sometimes it takes a comedian to say something in a “joking” way to get peoples attention. No one was taking this thing with R Kelly seriously. It was all piss jokes.
It’s not up to comedians to fix these things, all they can to is highlight it and hope the audience takes it from there.
For all I know, that piss was digital.
I think you nailed it.
Didn't Hannibal Buress call out Bill Cosby kind of in the same vein? And McFarlane or someone going after Harvey Weinstein? Comedians going after problems no-one else seems to want to acknowledge.
Yeah. McFarlane called out Weinstein in a joke onstage at an awards show ("Congratulations to the nominees. Now you won't have to pretend that you find Harvey Weinstein attractive.) He also called out Kevin Spacey on Family Guy (Stewey, running naked though a mall "Help, Help, I just escaped from Kevin Spacey's basement!")
Yeah my initial take on the actual sketch was not that Dave Chappelle was making light of it, he's a comedian. I don't actually agree with the tone of the article there, I like his comedy!!
Oh man, the “produced by chuck berry” at the end is the cherry on top of that video!
They are trying to get ahead of it now because A LOT of people and I mean A- FUCKING- LOT.. turned their head on all the bad shit rkelly has been doing and defended him, ignored everything else. Now that is gonna be a shitshow it's gonna be fucking catastrophic. I can't wait to see all the fuckin scumbags at least get brought into the light if straight up not shunned out of their protective circle into the shitpile where they belong.
R.Kelly is not really a big problem, in fact he is just a minor footnote in the grand scheme of things.
The real problem is the overwhelming amount of people that protected him when there was this ludicrous amount of evidence against him, literally condoning his actions.
These people will never face any repucussions for their involvement and enabling of him, and when R.Kelly goes down it will be in all practical sense about as useful as throwing a pebble into the ocean.
his whole entourage. (some of) the victims' parents. atlanta and chicago cops.
there is a large number of people that should be brought to justice as well as R. Kelly, but i agree, they'll never be held responsible. i just hope R. Kelly points fingers at as many people as possible when he's brought down so at least the victims will get some semblance of justice from so many people who have failed them.
It's definitely interesting that he is finally being taken to task now that he is older, hasn't made a big hit in years and is heavily in debt.
I know nothing about rap or popular music and even I knew about the allegations for years, why did people ignore them?
You know the Chappelle joke "he rapes, but he saves?"
Replace "saves" with "earns." Welcome to humanity. Weep.
That joke was about Bill Cosby. The one about R Kelly was the "how old is 15 really?" that talks about how the media treats a 15 year old black boy versus a 15 year old white girl.
Because the victims and their parents were either painted as willing participants (we have come so, so far in recognizing how unable children are to consent to sex over the last decade, it’s mind-boggling) or as liars and grifters out to get money or favors — “You didn’t help my kid become a star, so I’ll spread nasty rumors about you!”
People have amazing abilities to convince themselves that other victims did something wrong and they/their loved ones will not be victimized because they are different. I think one of the fathers of the victims actually literally said “I thought my daughter would be different” — basically he thought maybe Kelly had done something to another girl but that Kelly wouldn’t do anything to his daughter. Left hanging in the air is the logical conclusion to that line of thinking: “if Kelly did hurt that other girl, she must have deserved it or accidentally caused it and my daughter doesn’t deserve to get hurt and doesn’t have those kind of accidents so she won’t get hurt”.
the surviving R. Kelly documentary goes into this.
but essentially, he's built a rabid fanbase that believes he can do no wrong, and he balances his music hits with inspirational songs like i believe i can fly vs more raunchy songs like bump and grind. people refuse to believe a guy that can bang out i believe i can fly can possibly be responsible for something so reprehensible. there was a scene in the doc where he was singing at whitney houston's funeral and the pastors sitting behind him were just crying and caught up in the emotion.
also, the parents/family of the victims are 100% complicit in the behaviour. again, the documentary explains this, but the girl infamously peed on in the video, her father is R. Kelly's bassist. i'd think there is some incentive for the family to keep it under wraps so they keep making money from R. Kelly.
Only mistake you made is that no, the father is not r. Kelly's bassist. That man does not play bass.
The music credit is how they covered the payment up. The man pimped his own daughter out.
Edit: misspelled pimped.
"The chaplain had mastered, in a moment of divine intuition, the handy technique of protective rationalization, and he was exhilarated by his discovery. It was miraculous. It was almost no trick at all, he saw, to turn vice into virtue and slander into truth, impotence into abstinence, arrogance into humility, plunder into philanthropy, thievery into honor, blasphemy into wisdom, brutality into patriotism, and sadism into justice. Anybody could do it; it required no brains at all. It merely required no character." - Catch 22, J Heller
He made money for A LOT OF people, both directly and indirectly.
Wait so famous comedians were openly joking about this for decades? Why are people acting like it’s new?
Why did Bill Cosby not face repercussions until Hannibal Buress made a joke about it
Comedians have been joking about Harvey Winestein being a monster for over a decade. 30 Rock mentioned it.
Seth macFarlane made a joke about it during the 2013 Oscars. Hell even non-comedians were warning people about this guy as far back as 2005, look at Courtney Love.
Its recently become a topic of discussion again with some TV show I thinks its called Surviving R.Kelly
What happened to Aaliyah should have ended R. Kelly’s career right then and there in 1994, there is NO EXCUSE for marrying (and having a sexual relationship) with a 15 year old when your 27. Trying to find it, but I read something along the lines that the R. Kelly’s lawyer excused it as Aaliyah was the one who lied on the marriage certificate or likewise infuriating shit.
Easy for the bastard that to say since Aaliyah is unable to speak for herself.
From Chicago and it has indeed been 25 fucking years. Even in the mid-nineties there were plenty of rumblings about R. Kelly liking young girls and was a full on pervert. Yet every time he dropped a single or album everyone fucking lost their shit to go grab it.
Every few years like clockwork that another case would come up, but he would release something and be redeemed by the catchy refrain. It would matter and
R. Kelly was a running punchline of celebrities embarrassing black Americans on the Boondocks because of this willful ignorance of the obvious.
How did it take until now for any of it to matter? These were often little girls and it just didn't matter for all that damn time. I'm a bit beside myself.
I'm 42 years old. When I was IN COLLEGE I knew a girl from Chicago who told me that R. Kelly used to come to her high school to pick up girls. So you know this has been going on since he was in Public Announcement.
I don't know why people are acting brand new about this.
lmfao how the fuck do you go to a high school to pick up girls as a grown man.
God damn, society needs to stop accepting the celebrity pass.
Watching OJ: Made in America really helped me realize that The Trial of R Kelly is one of the best Boondocks episodes and a truly fantastic piece of television and political reflection (even moreso than Return of the King IMO). I had some thoughts I was gonna share about that but I haven't looked into this R Kelly business nearly enough that I should be weighing in, so I'll reserve my thoughts and keep soaking stuff in.
When Aaliyah first became popular she was very cagey about her age. She tried to keep her age a secret and denied that she was married to R. Kelly. Here's an interview she did around that time where she dodges questions about her age and relationship status.
Not an expert, but based on Wiki, the album was called "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number", which is pretty self-explanatory at this point. Beyond that:
With the release of Age Ain't Nothing but a Number, rumors circulated of a relationship between Aaliyah and R. Kelly. Shortly after, there was speculation about a secret marriage with the release of Age Ain't Nothing but a Number and the adult content that Kelly had written for Aaliyah. Vibe) magazine later revealed a marriage certificate that listed the couple married on August 31, 1994, in Sheraton Gateway Suites in Rosemont, Illinois. Aaliyah, who was 15 at the time, was listed as 18 on the certificate; the illegal marriage was annulled in February 1995 by her parents. The pair continued to deny marriage allegations, stating that neither was married. One particular allegation among the rumor was that Aaliyah wedded Kelly without her parents' knowledge.
Don't forget about the cover, which has R. Kelly creeping in the background like a pimp.
I met R Kelly twice.
The first time I was working at finish line, and he was hitting on my gf at the time; she was 16.
A few years later I met him at a studio where my friend, who was an aspiring rapper, was recording some songs. We were pretty star struck, but he ignored all of us and just smoked cigar after cigar. I couldn’t believe the number of cigars he smoked that night. So many cigars.
I mean he literally has a song about the first one, that's not uprising.
"So homie don't bring your girl to meet me 'cause I'm a flirt. And baby don't bring your girlfriend to eat 'cause I'm a flirt. Please believe it, unless your game is tight and you trust her. Then don't bring her around me 'cause I'm a flirt."
"Yeah, yeah homie you say she's your girlfriend. But when I step up to her I'm gonna be like, "cousin"
Believe me man, this is how them players do it in the chi. And plus we got them playerette flirters in the chi. Now the moral of the story is cuff your b**** 'cause hey I'm black, handsome, I sing plus I'm rich and I'm a flirt."
"Well if you love you girl. And wanna keep you girl. Don't be walking up and asking me to meet you girl. Because I'm well enough a flirt when I speak to girl."
"That means if you love your chick. Don't bring her to the vip. 'cause I might leave with your chick"
Yep just saw lady Gaga apologize and make a post about the me too movement. As if she found out his allegations this week 🧐
She’s on her star is born Oscar campaign
Lady Gaga and her team had to have known about his perverted allegations. I mean, how could you not? It's all over the Internet. Shame on her for suddenly acting up and speaking out amid R. Kelly reentering the media and the Oscar nominations around the corner.
Maybe they can follow it up with Chris Brown.
Shout out to Vince Staples who was calling R Kelly a piece of shit in an interview before this blew up
Yep. That interview at Coachella is genius, he’s on his own level of personality.
"Imma good person. R. Kelly's a piece of fuckin shit." Vince should be a national treasure.
Lol watch the video for him roasting r kelly and stay for his oil company overthrow master plan
People did try to convict him, but he beat it in court.
They had a video of him peeing on an underage girl, but no convictions. R. Kelly’s defense was so WTF, that it has since been named the “Shaggy Defense”, due to Kelly denying everything against overwhelming evidence. Just like Shaggy’s song, “It wasn’t me”.
In order for people keep trying to put him away, new charges has to come forward, and none have surfaced.
for some reason no one does anything about it.
You know exactly why nothing happened until now.....$$$$
The entertainment industry is fine with abusers and pedos as long as the $$ is worth it
”It’s too soon for you to be on my team
But give R Kelly a call,
I think he like ‘em thirteen”
Even ICP tried to warn us.
It's a sad, sad day when juggalos are morally superior on a topic.
IIRC they did a march on Washington against being labeled as a gang but they were also against Pro-Trump supporters.
I heard rumors and stories about this guy way back in 1995.
Funny how since the documentary artists like lady gaga are pulling songs from streaming services featuring r. kelly as if this is news to them and act all like “I believe and support the women”. Eminems been reminding people for years poking at r. Kelly in his songs.
"you can call me R Kelly now, urine trouble"
Oh my god I just now understand that lyric...
"And I'm talking to you but you already know who the fuck you are, Kelly"
I was too young during the 90s to really know anything about it; Macklemore told me about it in Thrift Shop
Holy shit I am oblivious. I’ve listenened to that song many times and just realized what he was saying. I’m so fucking stupid.
Seriously fuck lady Gaga on this. Acting like she's suddenly offended and in 2013 she had no idea. Her whole platform is supposedly standing up for the disenfranchised, gtfo
Lady Gaga's apology
"As a victim of sexual assault myself, I made both the song and the video at a dark time in my life, my intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn't processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life. The song is called "Do What U Want (With My Body)," I think it's clear how explicitly twisted my thinking was at the time. I intend to remove this song off of iTunes and other streaming platforms and will not be working with him again. I'm sorry, both for my poor judgment when I was young, and for not speaking out sooner."
This is my "I told you so!" moment.
I know some really passionate Lady Gaga fans. I remember when that song came out. I said, "knowing what we know about R Kelly, don't we think it's a bit messed up for Lady Gaga to release a song with him called 'Do What You Want With My Body?'"
People either shrugged, gave their mental gymnastics version of what she might be thinking or just said "that's why it's funny." Well guess what assholes? I told you it was messed up!
And I definitely saw my opinion echoed in numerous media outlets, bloggers, etc, back in 2013. There's NO WAY she didn't know. If she really honest to goodness didn't know, shame on her because she really should have.
God damn it!! Why won't his career just fucking die?? I'm tired of this shit! I'm 38 years old and I've had to endure enough of this crap! (My name irl is Robert Kelly.)
And you choose to have "Golden" in your reddit name?!
Not just any "golden", a Golden Falcon. Sounds like someone believes he can fly.
People ignored this shit so blatantly. I heard about this in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. That's how far this goes back, and how ingrained this normalization of child sexual abuse had become. They didn't do shit. They liked his subpar music too much. The fact it took so long for something to finally happen is heartbreaking. I can wholeheartedly sympathize for the victims. But I'm glad that finally...FINALLY...they're being heard
Hearing about this kind of stuff that young and seeing the total lack of consequence has got to normalize that type of behavior and makes it more acceptable and probably potentiates it. Pulling that out of my ass but seems like it would.
I mean what were “we” supposed to do about it? Everyone knew the piss tape verdict was bullshit. They just delayed the shot out of the trial for 6 YEARS and by then it was impossible to prove that the girl in the tape was who they thought it was. Plus she refused to testify.
We could've stopped buying his music and paying to see him perform
And lots of us did. R Kelly hasn’t had a major hit in a long time. I bumped his shit in high school (2002-2005) and knew about the piss tape but as others on this thread have commented, when we were teens we thought we were mature enough to make sexual decisions for ourself. Lots of 15/16 year old girls I knew were fucking older guys, sometimes much older, and had huge crushes on grown up celebrities. I understand that now someone is not able to consent at that age no matter how enthusiastic it may be. Also I just wasn’t really paying attention I guess. I do really like I Wish, and the remix, that’s the only song I still revisit once in a while, but I grew up in the Limewire era. I never paid a dime for music. And even if people stopped buying his music , that doesn’t bring any justice or prevent him from continuing to prey on people. So again. Wtf were we supposed to do?
I remember a few years ago him doing a hit with Lady Gaga. I just noticed she took the audio for it down on her YouTube. Remember what that song was? It was called, "Do what you want with my body".
I did my part then, I downloaded Ignition on limewire.
I’m sorry. But Ignition remix is way above sub-par
I always hate when people start acting like some artist's work sucked, just because they're getting their comeuppance. Like, fuck R. Kelly and everything, but don't pretend all the sudden buddy wasn't talented.
Different genre, but this is how I feel about the LostProphets. Ian Watkins is a degenerate piece of scum, and it makes me feel bad about listening to their music but they had some amazing songs that were a big part of my teen years
That was a horrific thing to discover that someone you listened to for years as a kid was such a fucked up excuse for a human. Haven't been able to listen to a single song since. I always felt bad for the rest of the band too, lost someone they thought was a friend and he ruined their career in the band to boot.
That disclaimer is getting pretty old fast.
He married a 15 year old (lying saying she was 18 on the paperwork). It's documented. But people still say 'allegedly" married a 15 year old. And then they go on to reiterate that he denies everything. I don't get it. He must have some damn good lawyers.
Yeah, how in the hell has everyone glossed over the fact that he was 28 when he married Aaliyah, and she was 15? That didn't tip anyone off? Gotta wait until he does it a few more times?
Aside from eye witnesses, there's a marriage certificate. And state IDs. And birth certificates.
I'd consider it a fact.
Yet most news media states he "allegedly married a 15 year old." And then as a footnote state "Robert Kelly denies all allegations of wrongdoing and misconduct, maintaining his innocence."
For some people that and a not guilty verdict are all it takes for them to go "those we're just some thursty gold-diggin' hos. I see no reason my 13 year old daughter can't go on tour with him. He's gonna make her famous!"
Apparently a teenage girl and her parents (who work for R Kelly) denying that it was her on a sex tape is enough reasonable doubt for a jury, in spite of the girl's best friend, coaches, teachers, other girl in video, and aunt (who says Kelly attempted to buy off) saying otherwise.
You know you fucked up when your own daughter calls you a monster
Do you have your passport? Did you get your shots?
The girl in the piss video denied it was her and missed her court appearance, and her uncle testified it wasn’t her. Her aunt testified it WAS her (she was the one that introduced her to R.Kelly and wanted him to help her with her niece’s rap career). They basically said that case would always go in Kelly’s favor if the girl never came forward. It wouldn’t matter if they could prove it was him in the video or not - without the girl, they got nothing.
In the documentary, he starts to date another woman several years after the fact. This woman has her friends in her ear about the tape so even tho she thinks she’s in love with Kelly, she looks up the piss video online. She immediately recognizes the little girl in the video - because Kelly introduced her to her a few months prior!!! This mofo kept that girl around (a million side eyes to her parents) and then she became the “trainer” to the other women/girls he seduces into his sex cult. ANDDDDD this girls father or uncle (can’t remember) continues to record guitar on a few Kelly tracks = he can sneak him bribery $$$ through that guitar payment.
Also that second lady that figures it out? She still continues her relationship with him :( even after she tells him she watched the tape, then he beats the shit out of her, and she still went back to him for awhile.
Edited to add: in the documentary, the most recent girls talk about how he has them sign documents constantly. He has a billion lawyers and since most of these girls ARE there willingly, there’s not much the police can do unless they are willing to press assault or sexual assault charges. Then they have to prove the assault happened. I have zero hope this sick fuck will go to jail because he knows how to cover his tracks. And he kind of stopped with the 16 and younger crowd. He will take girls 17 and up. If they can prove he prevented them to leave, or took their IDs something that can prove the trafficking charges...but he has a lot of lawyers behind him, and a string of brainwashed abused girls who afraid he will kill them. Or they actually think they are in love with him so they will never testify!!!!
R. Kelly: You turned her against me!
Prosecutor: You have done that yourself!
"Don't try it, Kelly. I have the high ground"
"You underestimate how far I can piss."
Can a lot of you please stop patting yourselves on the back with the "I knew this for years and felt like I was taking crazy pills since NO ONE CARED" comments? Fact is a lot of people knew and cared, but those people aren't the ones who could bring a case against R.Kelly. He was protected by his calculated manipulation of his victims and especially their families - the people who were in the position to do something about it.
I hope R. Kelly fucking burns in whatever hell he believes in.
"I believe I can fry"
R Kelly is 2019 version of Weinstein...
Everyone who stood behind him are now out calling him a dirtbag...and claiming they never knew about this for years!!!
