Not gonna lie, if this turns out to be a decent futuristic mil-sim without people crying about griefing, I will be very happy. It was actually pretty fun watching his stream the other day in SC.
I mean, that's what the PvP slider was supposed to be for before they got rid of it.
Honestly I'm probably never seriously play SC because open world PvP is not my jam.
Do you have a link for the PVP slider? I don't remember anything about that.
IIRC, the PvP slider was an early concept before the scope of the game ballooned. The original idea for multiplayer was that instead of being an open world, you'd travel between instances (original ArcCorp area that got removed was one of these instances) on set lanes where there would be a chance to be intercepted by either npc or player pirates. The PvP slider would determine how likely the pirates were to be either players or NPCs.
Presumably they had to ditch the PvP slider idea when they expanded the scope of the game to being open world instead of a collection of instances.

It was all over wingman's hangar and 10 ftc back in the day. They just threw it out there whenever someone brought up concerns about pvp griefing and the like.
Also, as I'm reading my comment before posting, it's hilarious that I can say "back in the day" for a game that's still in pre-alpha development, but 5 years is long enough for that phrase.
It's still a massive list to complete if they are going to try and fulfill every promise. Simple solution, have different servers for different play styles.
Just about anyone who's been involved in large software projects (particularly those that have gone off the rails) can see the signs. Core features were obviously not vetted, and the entire feature set was insanely over promised. Just listening to those early videos of Chris discussing all kinds of stuff is a dead giveaway that nothing really went through a POC and he was talking out of his ass (one reason I got a refund). It is what it is.
I wish SC the best, but this turned into a frankenproject a long time ago. They might power through if enough people throw money at it for long enough, but it'll never be "the vision" that was sold at the beginning.
Sadly, I don't ever expect CIG to take the simple solution.
Assuming the economy isn't completely fucked by P2W ships; I'd love to spend 60-80 bucks to play this. Heck, if they do a WoW style 15/month I'd still check it out. But I seriously doubt it'll be anything like it's promised.

It's ok! They promised to give us a Roadmap for SQ42 this month! It's not the first time they promised a roadmap, but this time it'll definitely work out! /s
Obviously you don't understand game development. It's critical for the team to release a roadmap for the roadmap, so that you can track how you're on track for release.
I don't think it will ever be what CR initially promised. He's been slowly backtracking on promises to bring this down to reality. Even with the 1000 players, he mentions that in no way he could have them all in the same area. And I actually appreciate them reeling in expectations, not that that forgives all, but it's redeeming nevertheless. If Crytek is recouped for their losses and CIG continues to make something actually fun for what it actually is, it might be worth it in a couple of years, even though it will still be missing most of the initial promises, but that doesn't bother me, as I was refunded for that purchase a few years ago.
The problem is they're still burning through a ton of money. Their ship shenanigans are already unethical, and they'll have to get worse as they keep squeezing the whales for all they have.
They literally force you to spent more then 40 bucks... wait...

This game doesn't happen without those expensive packages. So I'd say it isn't the best comparison lol.
