Hi, as a friendly reminder to anyone reading this who might want to go add their two cents, please look but don't touch at the Star Citizen Subreddit Exhibit. Star Citizens are easily startled and don't react well to environmental stressors like sudden influxes of downvotes or comments, and it's important not to tamper with them in ways that might disrupt their ecosystem. Thanks!
Star Citizen - When buying a game requires a dictionary. There's no aggressive monitisation or exploitative marketing practices at all....
It seems that he forgot the most important three. I shall fix that!
Fracking: The means of extracting money from gamers who are tired of evil publishers making buggy games that are years late, and use p2w mechanics.
Whales: Backers who, through fracking, have paid hundreds or thousands of dollars to CIG for a buggy pre-alpha, that is years late and relies on p2w mechanics.
Getting fracked from behind: When whales experience unexpected changes in CIGs policies. Such as changes in TOS, new backers getting preferential treatment, or earlier promises being walked back on.
Let's make our own:
SCF: Sunk Cost Fallacy
Whale: A person who spends thousands on a jpeg to show off
You don't understand game development: I don't understand game development
First off I want to say I'm a huge fan of the project... : The ritualistic blow-job that must be given to Chris Roberts before the very slightest of criticisms can be given in the official channels. Swallowing the spooge is optional.
Limited number of ships: the arbitrary number of ships that must be sold so that Citizens can infer scarcity and panic buy, before the ship is sold again in the next sale. There apparently were a few more in the back.
Like the Glaive?
Out of interest, (as someone who was gifted an Aurora and just cant be arsed to dl and play this garbage).. how many actually "playable" ships are there in this demo so far?
You want to go home and rethink your life.
Refactor: Term that in normal software dev means backend changes that leaves the front-end working the same, but in CIG lingo means any kind of change to the game.
Do your part citizen
Put a dollar in the box
saw this while browsing the official reddit. You know when other gaming communities make up their own lingo to describe gameplay concepts, tactics, builds etc?
Not to so with star citizen, this game‘s lingo deals almost exclusively with monetization and pay2win schemes...
It just sums up what SC most closely resembles:-
iOS app games: Where the Game Skin overlay hides a Monetization Machine designed underneath (like an ice-berg) to dupe players into believing their actions are play but in fact are designed to induce monetization via:-
The poster above is the same thing: It's all about the monetization, at macro-levels. LOL, 42 ways to monetize your mobile game
When you turn exploitation into badge of honor.
Ctrl + F "money" = 20 results.
Wow 1 of them is not about cash I'm shocked
Here's a TL;DR version made by a goon: https://i.imgur.com/MVeZhT7.jpg
lol! I am at work and had to stifle the urge to laugh loudly. Goons are exceptionally good at memes and trolling like this.
A grey version of Fallout 76
Lol, I saw a comment on SC where someone was like "this game is like a more polished version of 76."
Like, you can't make this shit up. But no, it's clearly them who understand game development, not us.
Having a monetization scheme so byzantine it requires its own dictionary definitely makes the whole thing look innocent and consumer-friendly. And Jim Sterling thinks Ubisoft games needing a spreadsheet to know which special edition to buy is bad.
I saw this the other day, damn near posted the same. Cracked me the fuck up.
Well that's where the gameplay is, catching the pokeships with your cashballs.
