Thanks for the reply, I'll check these out. Planning on going to a gun show sometime soon so I can actually get a feel for different models and figure out what I like the feel of.
The main purpose will be HD, but I'd like to take it to the range to shoot at least a few times a month if not weekly.
From a cursory search, it looks like the magazine capacity is 4; is this easy to increase, and as a related question am I worrying too much about capacity? Because the higher capacity mossbergs sounded good, but I guess are 9 shells gonna solve a problem that 4 didn't? Although, alternatively, if I'm on the business end of a 4 shell problem, maybe more is more in this particular case.
Unless you plan on shooting clay games like trap or skeet you would be better off with an AR-15 or 9mm handgun. Shotguns are not very interesting to shoot at static targets. An AR is more enjoyable to shoot at the range and better for home defense. I love my shotguns but would rather have my AR if someone is in my home.
I actually was thinking of trying clay pigeons at some point and was wondering about the mossberg security/field bundles for that reason.
With regard to the ar, it's not something I've looked into, but I honestly don't know if that's a realistic option in ca.
Yeah, a Cali legal AR has a lot of disadvantages. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with a shotgun for home defense. A 12g or 20g with #4 buck is great at avoiding over-penetration, and #00 or slugs are also good if that isn’t a concern.
