They probably want to avoid their games being about achievements and ePeen size like other ones become.
I guess. I got really into trophy hunting on my PS4 and being a life long Nintendo fan boy I thought Nintendo would be the perfect spot to have achievements that are super grindy. Imagine a achievement like beat super Mario 64 under 2 hours or collect a korok seeds in breath of the wild
You could just as easy make those challenges up yourself, or find some online. Speedruns are a thing, with well kept record databases.
Also Super Mario Odyssey has achievements!

I still don't know how that works. I'm on Reddit for video games, asking stupid questions and a second account for sexy time but I have no idea what you get from karma. I read the phrase karma farming a lot tho.
