"So uh Trent, you mind playing I'm Looking Forward To Joining You, Finally live, finally?" "Yeah, I'll think about it" -Trent Reznor, 2000
Man, Trent was totally crushing. He looks so youthfully happy as well haha
In 2005 he was living pretty weightless at the time. He was clean, and survived the first years of shakiness recovering addicts have get, he was touring, he was eating right, exercising, he was seeing someone and reconnecting with family, his personal time was spent playing vidya all the time (I forget who said it, maybe Saul Williams, but it was mentioned Rez was always gaming) he was not making high concept music, instead he was back to basics, and he didn't have the title of "savior of rock and roll" chained around his neck.
Another thing that happened to put a spring in his step was just how well received With Teeth was. It might seem commercial sounding nowadays, but after the flop of The Fragile and the Fragility tour, it seemed like Nine Inch Nails was dead in the water. It was the shot in the arm he needed, pulling him away from that angry young man phase. In someways WT was the PHM for second phase Nails (2005-2009)
Really well put!
The Fragiles a great record though
Great album, and it was still lambasted upon release. The Fragile took a decade before people really started to appreciate it.
That’s crazy I’m new to the sub didn’t know any background around when the album was released
Mainstream listeners yes, but wasn’t it praised within the community? That record came out when I was in high school and me and my friends couldn’t stop listening to it.
Other artists liked it, and fans liked it, but it was torn apart by a lot of the more "high brow" critics; and those reviews remained up for years, tarring The Fragile as a bloated mess that took too many years to complete, without the context of Reznor's distractions and the implication that he wanted to be the next huge thing. nearly twenty until finally Pitchfork ended up walking back the 2/10 rating it got on release.
dang he is charming here
Trent was crushin
TOTALLY...its like he has a thing for light brown skinned slightly racially ambiguous women or something.
This is probably the most amicable I have ever seen him in an interview.
Courtney Love soured him on white women.
Hahaha she would have that effect with anyone probably
It was a One Two punch. He had the Courtney Love/ Tori Amos psychodrama, then he spent time with David Bowie and saw how Imam and Bowie got along famously. Really got his noggin jogging.
It's all about the contrast my friend
Hahaha that’s the first thing I noticed and I suddenly wanted to keep watching this interview go on and on..
She kept it real tho. Asked good questions, was confident and calm, and seemed to understand his demeanor. She hella cute too
Vive le Québec
Don't show this to Mariqueen
I don't think ive ever seen an interview with TR where he smiles and laughs that much. clearly in a good mood that day :)
He’s clearly in love. He’s just as charming in another interview with her on her YouTube channel.💋💋
This video is from her channel. Just click through to her profile and go back to find TR with his With Teeth era hair. :)
That was my first vibe. Evidence suggests Trent's got good taste in women.
Lmao Trent out here just like trying to be ultra cordial and then straight up trolling at the end
Bless this dude lmaooo
Trent you cutie
“I’ll think about it” shakes head nooooo
haha, he goes all socially anxious when put on the spot. Seeing Trent (or anyone successful) display awkwardness is so reassuring. I haven't seen him that way in recent interviews though. Bringing up kids helps with social awkwardness maybe?
Oh god watch rivers como in an interview if you want to see social awkwardness at its fucking apex. Trent looks totally normal comparatively. Rivers comes off like he’s been in a cave for 2 years and is speaking to a person for the first time since shaving off a 2 year beard vibe.
What a cutie, never have seen him smiling and laughing that much in an interview.
Not a Good Charlotte fan but wow that must have been pretty crushing for them to hear haha
I enjoy this love story
A duet hu
She has some other interview clips with him on her channel, and actually asks some really good questions, I'd recommend checking them out.
Niggy Tardust was amazing, so he was spot on there.
I could imagine far worse things.
That’s the most diplomatic I’ve ever seen Trent save possibly his comments about Apple Music after leaving the fold. Plus he smiled.
